The Genshin Impact meta can get pretty confusing. There’s a lot to take into account – constellations, Elemental Resonance, artifacts, et cetera – so it’s tempting to focus on the few characters considered the “best”. Venti, Diluc, and Hu Tao are all extremely useful, yes, but they’re also scarce. Most players will have to make do with more common characters until their Wish pity kicks in. However, star ranking isn’t always proportional to power. Certain common units are just as, if not more strong than their five-star kin. One of the best examples is the Hydro character Xingqiu.
Xingqiu is living proof that players shouldn’t judge characters by their rarity. Despite being a common four-star, he’s one of Genshin Impact‘s most potent and flexible supports. Some may be put off by the fact that he doesn’t fully fit into a role – he’s weaker than most DPS units, and his healing can be negligible. But versatility is his strong suit. There are multiple ways Liyue’s Juvenile Galant can become truly powerful.
4 Xingqiu As A Damage Dealer
Sword-wielding characters like Xingqiu have among the highest attack speed. The Rain Swords provided by his Skill boost his resistance to interruption, making him a combo machine. The Skill and Burst come out very quickly, too. His base damage is somewhat low, but he can keep opponents tied up for a very long time. When it comes to raw power, Xingqiu is outdone by many. He shouldn’t be the main DPS unit on the team. Even so, pigeonholing him as pure support is missing out on an effective fighter.
The best artifact set for this build is Noblesse Oblige. This rare set is only available from the Clear Pool and Mountain Cavern domain. Players have to be at least AR 35 to enter – but the rewards are worth the struggle.
3 Xingqiu As Elemental Support
Thanks to his Elemental Burst, Xingqiu can also be a great help in setting up Hydro reactions. Activating Raincutter before switching to an Electro character will set off Electro-Charged several times in a row. His Skill is also useful in bulking up fragile teammates. This playstyle really comes online after his first ascension. Hydropathic makes his Rain Swords restore a little HP when they disappear. He can’t put out the healing of Barbara or Noelle, but it’s still fantastically useful.
The best artifact set for this build is The Exile. This set boosts Energy Recharge for Xingqiu and his party. The Exile is also easy to obtain – most Normal Bosses can drop the set.
2 Best Weapons For Xingqiu
Good news for free-to-play travelers: the best weapons for Xingqiu are all four-star. Bad news: they’re still Wish exclusive. First up is the Sacrificial Sword. This is one of the most popular swords in Genshin Impact. After Xingqiu does damage with his Skill, there’s a chance that the cooldown will end immediately. That means more swords and more damage absorption. The Favonius Sword is also helpful, regenerating energy on crits.
The best forgeable weapon for Xingqiu is the Iron Sting. He’ll get a boost to his own damage for a short time after he deals Elemental Damage. Unlike his own swords, this buff doesn’t transfer to other characters.
1 Best Teammates For Xingqiu
If Xingqiu’s second constellation is unlocked, pair him with a Hydro DPS character like Tartaglia. Foes hit by the sword rain will take extra damage from Hydro for a short while. Two Hydro characters also activate the Soothing Water resonance, boosting healing by 30%. Again, Xingqiu shouldn’t be the main healer, but this will be a great buff to whoever is.
Perhaps the most powerful teammate for Xingqiu is Chongyun. The latter’s Elemental Skill converts all physical damage to Cryo for a short while. When combined with Raincutter and Xingqiu’s fast attack speed, he’ll be Freezing enemies with every normal attack. Electro characters such as Lisa also work well with him, setting up the powerful Electro-Charged reaction. All in all, Xingqiu is pretty flexible and will work on most teams provided thought is put into Reactions.
