Nike Teaming With Paul George for PlayStation 5-Themed Shoes

Images of a new Paul George signature shoe modeled after the PlayStation 5 are beginning to surface online. The new kicks feature a PS5-inspired design, and are packed with homages to Sony’s latest and greatest console.

The professional basketball player, who plays in the NBA for the Los Angeles Clippers, appears to have a flourishing relationship with Sony. In addition to being gifted the new console from them on launch day, the entire Clippers team was gifted PS5s and accompanying headphones before the first game of the 2021-2022 season.

Paul George’s PS5 shoes utilize the Nike PG 5 basketball sneaker, a fittingly named model that effectively combines “PS5” with George’s nickname “PG-13.” The shoe sticks to the console’s primary color combination of blue, white, and black across two different colorways.

Nike appears to have thought of every possible detail, including elements such as the PS5’s loading screen and logo, white outer shell, and gradient blue underglow. Additionally, the upper features tiny versions of PlayStation’s button symbols, the same pattern that gamers found when looking at the PS5 DualSense controller under a microscope.

This isn’t the first PlayStation-themed shoe Paul George and Nike have collaborated on. The seven-time NBA All-Star released his first PlayStation-related model in 2018, with a PS2-themed model of the (also aptly named) PG2. Following the success of the first one, George and Nike released a follow-up in the form of the PG 2.5s. Released last December, the second model paid homage to the original PlayStation, featuring the console’s classic grey coloring and colorful logo. While this drew quite a few comparisons to Nike’s Nintendo 64 shoes released the year prior, the new PS5 PG 5s have a more unique look.

Even though Paul George may be an elite athlete, he appears to be an equally avid gamer. Beyond his obvious affinity for Sony consoles, the Clipper was one of the celebrities who participated in the inaugural Fortnite Celebrity Pro-Am tournament. The 2018 event saw 50 Fortnite pros paired up with 50 celebrities in a duos competition to win $3 million in prize money towards a charity of the winner’s choosing. While the tournament was ultimately won by Ninja and Marshmello, George was ecstatic to be there, saying it felt, “Amazing to be competing.”

Although Nike has yet to officially release any details, Hypebeast has stated the Nike Paul George “PlayStation 5” PG 5s will drop later this year for $110. As it stands right now, gamers may have a better shot at nabbing a pair than they do of an actual PlayStation 5. A new report claims that the PS5’s stock could be affected by the ship that was stuck in the Suez Canal for six days, making it an even taller order to get the new-gen system.
