PUBG’s free-to-play experiment on PC is over.
PUBG Lite, which launched in 2019 as a low-spec, free-to-play version of the battle royale game, is shutting down later this month.
PUBG Corp. pulled download links on Tuesday, but players who already have it installed can continue to play it and spend in-game credits until April 29. All PUBG Lite player support will end one month later, on May 29.
In the announcement, PUBG Corp. did not say why it’s killing the game, just that the decision was made “after much deliberation.”
“We would like to convey our sincerest apology as well as our deepest appreciation to everyone. We truly hope you have enjoyed your time with us and please look forward to our future endeavours,” the developer said.
PUBG Lite initially launched in Southeast Asia, and later made its way to Europe. The studio is currently working on two games set in the PUBG universe, one of which was recently revealed to be PUBG: New State – a sequel to PUBG Mobile set in the near future.
It’s assumed that a sequel to the main PUBG on PC and consoles is the team’s other major project.
