日本政府決定，批准大阪、宮城和兵庫採取較嚴格的防疫措施，應對當地疫情再度蔓延。三個府縣將在下星期一起採取僅次於緊急事態宣言的防止蔓延重點措施，直至五月五日。當局把仙台市、大阪市、兵庫縣的神戶、尼崎、西宮、蘆屋市6個市指定為措施對象，要求餐飲店縮短營業時間至晚上8點，活動入場人數上限定為5千人。

俄羅斯駐美大使安東諾夫說，俄美關係目前面臨最深刻的危機，但莫斯科一直在努力建立務實對話。

俄羅斯傳媒報道，面對俄美關係越趨緊張，莫斯科罕有地傳召安東諾夫回國磋商。
