Forza Horizon 5 marks the newest instalment of the Forza Horizon sub-series. This time, it features a hot new expedition through Mexico. Expect to tour lush sceneries, majestic waterfalls, and even Mexican wall art in this photo-realistic racing sim.
Playground Games claims it’s the most expansive and diverse map in the Forza Horizon series to date. However, what does it offer besides a brand new environment and realistically rendered graphics?
Here’s everything you need to know about Forza Horizon 5, which you should totally play while waiting for Turn 10 Studios to finish Forza Motorsport 8.
Forza Horizon 5 release date
Forza Horizon 5 releases on November 9, 2021. However, for those who can’t wait, Deluxe and Premium editions offer early access on November 5, 2021. These editions give the ultimate Forza fans an extra 4 days of fun before standard buyers.
The Forza Horizon 5 trailer, which drops the release date, also showcases seasonal weather and sceneries with action-packed races between cool cars. Oh, and a hype soundtrack.
Forza Horizon 5 platforms
Forza Horizon 5 runs on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It’s also available for Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Cloud Gaming.
According to a recent FAQ, the game runs at 4K 30fps on Series X and 1080p 30fps on Series S. There’s a special “performance mode” that boosts the framerate to 60fps, but they didn’t specify the resolution. PC specs weren’t confirmed, either.
Forza Horizon 5 supports cross-progression, meaning save files carry over between Windows and Xbox. Crossplay also works across PC and console platforms.
Forza Horizon 5 editions
Forza Horizon 5 offers Standard, Deluxe, and Premium Editions. Standard is exactly what it sounds like–just the base game. Xbox Game Pass subscribers get this version for free.
The Deluxe Edition comes with the Car Pass, which adds 42 cars for the player to enjoy. Cars change the way players experience the game in terms of driving mechanics and cosmetic appeal. So, if you want the added substance and style, it costs $20 more than the Standard. The Car Pass drops 8 extra Formula Drift cars upfront and the other 34 cars deliver weekly one by one.
Last but not least: the Premium Edition. This precious package tops all other editions when it comes to spoils. It comes with:
- Welcome Pack
- Car Pass
- VIP Membership
- Two DLC Expansions
For Game Pass subscribers interested in Premium, you can buy the Premium Bundle add-on for $50.00. This add-on offers the same perks as if you bought a Premium Edition, except you won’t need to buy the base game because you should be able to get it from Game Pass. Alternatively, you can buy this bundle if you bought Standard first and decided you needed these exclusive extras.

Forza Horizon 5 gameplay
Forza Horizon takes pride in faithfully representing the desert landscapes, colorful rainforest, coastal villages, and other Insta-worthy vistas in Mexico. As showcased in the E3 demo, the campaign flows safari-style through different regions and prioritizes exploration as one of its key objectives. You need to wheel around the Mayan ruins to pass a story checkpoint.
It’s not just a racing sim or travel brochure, though. It can be a playful competition. Players can race against their friends in various courses and mini-games. The Events Lab enables players to build creative, wacky game modes from scratch with handpicked rules. Cars bulldozed bowling pins through a colorful arcade-themed course in one of the example custom modes.
There’s also an actual arcade mode called Horizon Arcade. One of the arcade modes challenged cars to bust as many multicolor pinatas as possible while touring through Mexican villages. Twelve mini-games in total mean surefire fun in these entertaining gauntlets. More zany modes will likely come to light closer to the game’s release.
