Meta is already replacing Oculus Quest 2 with Meta Quest 2 in its ads

5 11 月, 2021 Charlie Wacholz 0

The Meta Quest 2 is coming to a Star Wars Disneyland exhibition in 2021.

What you need to know

Meta has begun to call its VR headset the Meta Quest 2 in advertisements, removing the Oculus brand ahead of schedule.
We first spotted the Meta Quest 2 name in an ad for an upcoming Star Wars VR installation at Downtown Disney.
Meta previously announced it would ditch the Oculus brand in 2022. The headset is still listed as the Oculus Quest 2 on storefronts.
All Meta VR products will eventually follow the same naming conventions.

Following last week’s announcement that Facebook was changing its name to Meta, the social media and data collection conglomerate has begun rebranding some of its products and services. The Oculus Quest 2 is one of the first products to see an initial change.

In an Oculus blog post, the company announced that Downtown Disney would have a free demo of Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge in VR, outside of the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California. Specifi…

Keep your Oculus Quest 2 safe with these great storage and travel cases

30 10 月, 2021 Charlie Wacholz 0

The Oculus Quest 2 may be a mobile headset, but it’s actually dangerous to take it on the go without protection. Carry it in a backpack, and stray junk like a pencil could scratch the unprotected lenses and ruin them. Even if you only keep it at home, sunlight permanently damages the lenses, so you’ll need to keep it enclosed when not in use. Oculus sells a Carrying Case with plenty of capacity for your Elite Strap and accessories; or, if you want something more travel-sized or hard-shelled, we’ve chosen the other best Oculus Quest 2 cases to consider.

Best overall: Oculus Quest 2 Carrying Case

It’s no coincidence that the official case leads the pack. While most cases are designed for the original Quest, this one was made with the slightly smaller Quest 2 in mind. Thanks to its compact, stylish design, the Official Quest 2 carrying case is ideal.

It’ll easily keep all your accessories secure in most situations, and there’s room for everything here. Tuck away your headset, contr…

Virtual reality presents a number of challenges for disabled players

11 10 月, 2021 Charlie Wacholz 0

Publishers and developers alike need to do better to include disabled players.

Recent years have seen accessibility become something of a hot-button issue in game development. Games like The Last of Us Part 2 and devices like the Xbox Adaptive Controller catapult the discussion around accessibility to the forefront of the gaming landscape. Stories of disabled gamers from around the world getting to interact with games in new ways, some for the first time ever, have become more and more common.

To accessibility consultant and developer Brian Van Buren, however, that rising tide hasn’t quite lifted every ship. “Often, when people have disabilities in their lives, they have various different sorts of adaptive technologies to allow them to interface with various things, but I don’t feel like VR developers have quite come to terms with that yet.”

What’s wrong with VR right now?

VR development faces a number of challenges when working to make another reality more accessible…

1 10 月, 2021 Charlie Wacholz 0

It’s the epic conclusion we’ve been waiting for.

What you need to know

Critics enjoyed Jurassic World Aftermath’s scary, atmospheric take on the franchise in the first part.
Part 2 was originally revealed at the end of August.
Part 2 will be at least an hour and a half longer than the first part.

Originally announced at the tail end of August, Jurassic World Aftermath: Part 2 is finally out. After a brief teaser reveal from the game revealed a not-so-distant release date, Coatsink, the studio behind the game, didn’t share a lot of information on it until today.

Paired with a brief launch trailer to remind us that the game came out today. This expansion on the first part of the Aftermath storyline will also be its last, Coatsink has confirmed. Our own Nick Sutrich loved the first part of the game for being the, “stealth survival horror dino game he’d always wanted in VR.”

Players who own the first part will be able to get their hands on Part 2 for an aditional $15, putting the …

A major Oculus Quest feature just got overhauled in the latest update

13 9 月, 2021 Charlie Wacholz 0

Guardian Intrusion detection is getting a big upgrade.

What you need to know

Guardian Intrusion Detection detects when an object enters your play area while you have your headset on.
Space Space sense does this too, only it will also show you an outline of the object, pet or person in real-time.
This was datamined a while ago.

In the Oculus v32, the latest iteration of the Oculus operating system, Facebook and Oculus finally introduced an anticipated feature that’s seemingly been in the works for a while. The new feature, Space Sense, automatically detects when something (or someone) is in the play area or enters it and then tells the player by displaying a model of said person, pet or object in the game.

Alvo beats Resident Evil 4 to the punch as the first Quest 2-exclusive game

3 9 月, 2021 Charlie Wacholz 0

Alvo has a quicker draw than Leon Kennedy.

What you need to know

Avlo already launched on PSVR earlier this year
It will be the first game in the Oculus Quest ecosystem that won’t be supported on the original Quest.
It’s set to enter a closed beta period soon.

Earlier this week, Outsidein Entertainment, the studio behind Alvo took to Reddit to announce that their VR multiplayer shooter had been approved for an Oculus Quest release following its PSVR release back in April. The announcement came paired with an open call for beta testers on the Oculus Quest Subreddit. Curiously, the post only encouraged Quest 2 owners to join their Discord server.

UploadVR followed up with the developer to determine whether the beta’s exclusivity to the Quest 2 was only during the beta period, or if Alvo would launch only on Quest 2. Following this, Outsidein Entertainment confirmed to them that Alvo would be launching without Quest 1 support. They also confirmed that this was largely due to the…

The Oculus Quest 2 is great, but these accessories make it even better

31 8 月, 2021 Charlie Wacholz 0

The Oculus Quest 2 is an amazing, affordable introduction to VR, but it isn’t without its flaws. Its face cover causes skin irritation, and it doesn’t ship with the official Carrying Case. Its unsupportive cloth strap makes the headset top-heavy, the battery is short-lived…there’s plenty to improve! Thankfully, the best Oculus Quest 2 accessories actually solve (or at least alleviate) many of these issues. To make your virtual experience better, we’ve chosen the top Oculus or third-party option in every category, from face covers to batteries, Link cables to VR-ready PCs.

Best overall: Oculus Quest 2 Carrying Case

You may not be carrying your Quest 2 anywhere these days, but unless you want to keep your Quest 2 in the box it shipped in, you need something to hold it. The lenses can get damaged after just a few seconds of exposure to sunlight, and after you buy a bunch of accessories, you’ll need somewhere to keep them, so they don’t get lost.

Among the best Oculus Quest 2 case…
