This insane OnePlus 7T deal brings it down to just $350

5 11 月, 2020 Harish Jonnalagadda 0

With deals season on the horizon, we’re already starting to see enticing discounts on phones. The OnePlus 7T is still a fantastic phone a year after its launch, and right now you can get your hands on the device for just $350 from Woot. That’s for the T-Mobile version, but you can use it on other GSM networks, and you’re getting a brand new device with a one-year warranty.

I’ve seen the OnePlus 7T go down to $399 in earlier deals, and the fact that it’s now down to $350 makes it a downright steal. As a reminder, OnePlus launched the phone last year for $599, and had it on sale for $499 following the launch of the OnePlus 8 series. The unlocked model sold out shortly thereafter, but the T-Mobile version is still available, and you can pick it up on OnePlus website for $449. But if you head on over to Woot, you can get the same phone for just $350.

Looking back at the OnePlus One — $300 phones have come a long way

2 11 月, 2020 Harish Jonnalagadda 0

OnePlus turned the value flagship segment on its head, and it all started with the OnePlus One.

OnePlus makes some of the best Android phones on the market, and it’s hard to imagine that the manufacturer launched its first phone just six years ago. The OnePlus One debuted on April 23, 2014, and OnePlus managed to build a lot of hype around the device ahead of its launch. In that sense, not much has changed in the last six years.

The OnePlus One was an important phone in the larger Android ecosystem, because it furthered the idea of value flagships in Western markets. The OnePlus One wasn’t the first affordable flagship; Xiaomi was already on the rise in China by that point, and devices like the Mi 3 — which was introduced in September 2013 — allowed the manufacturer to increase its presence in its home market.

And while Xiaomi made its foray into India with the Mi 3 and eventually went on to become the largest phone manufacturer in the country, the OnePlus One stood out becaus…

Review: Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro makes the 108MP camera accessible to everyone

29 10 月, 2020 Harish Jonnalagadda 0

Xiaomi’s latest value flagship delivers an outstanding camera and the latest internal hardware.

Xiaomi set its sights squarely on Samsung with the Mi 10 Pro, offering the same 108MP camera as the Galaxy S20 Ultra for several hundred dollars less. The Mi 10 Pro was proof that Xiaomi could deliver a camera that can hold up to the best that Android has to offer, and the premium design combined with 50W charging and 30W wireless charging made it one of the best phones I’ve used in 2020.

Xiaomi is now launching new variants in its flagship series in the form of the Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro. While the naming suggests that these phones are upgraded models of the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro, that is not the case. The Mi 10T series does not supersede the Mi 10 lineup; if anything, it slots in at a lower price point.

The Mi 10T Pro retains the same 108MP camera as the Mi 10 Pro and is powered by the same Snapdragon 865 chipset, but it switches to a LCD panel — albeit one with 144Hz refresh rate — …

Samsung delivering an update to the Galaxy S7 isn’t a cause for celebration

28 10 月, 2020 Harish Jonnalagadda 0

Excitement around the Galaxy S7 receiving a security patch underscores the state of Android updates in 2020.

Samsung has committed to delivering three platform updates to its flagships and select mid-range phones and tablets, but the caveat is that the Galaxy S10 series and later are eligible to receive three updates.

So if you’re using the Galaxy S9 or an older flagship, you will not get the update to Android 11. For its part, Samsung is still doing a good job delivering security updates to older devices, and it even rolled out a patch to the Galaxy S7, a phone that launched four and a half years ago. As spotted on Reddit, the update includes stability and bug fixes, and the September 2020 security patch.

Samsung is doing a better job with updates, but it can do so much more.

It is great to see Samsung delivering an update to a four-year-old phone, particularly when you consider the company’s lackluster performance in this area in the past. But the news underscores a bigger …

Create your own private cloud with these NAS enclosures

21 10 月, 2020 Harish Jonnalagadda 0

The best network-attached storage (NAS) for home is one that lets you stream your media collection and back up all the devices on your network seamlessly. A NAS essentially lets you create your private Netflix or Spotify, and most models on this list let you access your media over the internet. If you’re looking to build your own media server or need a solution for backing up data, these are the best NAS enclosures for your home in 2020, although if you were to start somewhere, we’d recommend the Synology DiskStation DS220+.

1. Synology DiskStation DS220+: Best Overall

The DiskStation 220+ is a standout option that gives you everything you’re looking for in a home NAS. OPPO Reno 4 Pro review: Premium design letdown by an underwhelming chipset

20 10 月, 2020 Harish Jonnalagadda 0

The Reno 4 Pro combines an elegant design with 65W fast charging, but the internal hardware doesn’t pass muster in this category.

OPPO is doing all the right things in 2020. The Find X2 series holds its own against the best that Samsung and Google have to offer, and OPPO is making a lot of strides in cleaning up its software. The Android 11-based ColorOS 11 build comes with a lot of positive design tweaks that make the UI more palatable to a global audience.

With Huawei largely out of the picture in Western markets because of the U.S. ban, Chinese manufacturers like OPPO and Xiaomi are taking advantage of the void and positioning their products as the ideal alternatives to Huawei and Honor. We’ve already seen this with the Find X2 series in the high-end segment, and OPPO is now looking to emulate a similar level of success with its mid-range phone, the Reno 4 Pro.

The standout feature on the Reno 4 Pro is 65W fast charging, which debuted on the Find X2 series earlier this year. Th…

OnePlus 8T review: Striking the perfect balance

14 10 月, 2020 Harish Jonnalagadda 0

With 65W fast charging and a 120Hz display, the OnePlus 8T has the upgrades you’re looking for.

OnePlus has to thread the needle every year with its mid-cycle T refresh. It needs to add enough new features that customers find a compelling enough reason to pick up the new phone, but not too many that it risks overshadowing its numbered flagship series.

OnePlus, therefore, has to strike the ideal balance when it comes to new features. With the OnePlus 8T, it has managed to do just that. The phone has internal hardware that’s similar to the OnePlus 8 series, but it picks up 65W fast charging and a new design for the rear camera housing that makes it stand out. There’s also a 120Hz display, and the screen itself is flat, unlike the OnePlus 8 series.

OnePlus is facing increased competition in this category with the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, which includes most of the features from the regular S20 series at a much more affordable $599 price. The Pixel 5 also makes a…
