After the recent September PS5 games showcase, Insomniac Games revealed that Marvel’s Spider-Man is being remastered for PS5, with ray-tracing, a performance mode and more. This remaster is being included with Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Launch Edition and if you want to play it, you can’t use your save from the PS4 game.

This was confirmed by Insomniac on Twitter, who also confirmed there are no plans for a physical release. The studio has not clarified whether or not there’ll be an upgrade path for players who owned the PS4 game.

PS5 architect Mark Cerny has previously discussed these kinds of features.
A list of games that will benefit from the advanced hardware has not been released.

According to the official PS5 landing page on PlayStation, PS5 features a “Game boost,” stating that players can “Enjoy faster and smoother frame rates in select PS4 and PSVR games.” This appears to be in relation to statements made by Sony earlier this year regarding how backward compatible titles could take advantage of the advanced PS5 specs.

The PSVR can be used on PS5, as can the PS4 Camera, though you’ll need an adapter that is free for PSVR owners. As yet, Sony has not explained how PSVR owners will acquire this free adapter.

Some companies like Ubisoft are providing free PS5 upgrades to their upcoming PS4 titles.
Box art for these games is starting to show up with a “PS5 Upgrade Available” sticker.
The first one is Immortals Fenyx Rising, formerly known as Gods and Monsters.
This sticker should be used to denote paid or free upgrades for PS4 titles.

Different publishers are taking different paths for providing PS5 upgrades for upcoming PS4 games. It appears that the physical versions of these games that’ll have upgrade will also have a “PS5 Upgrade Available” sticker clearly placed on the box art. The first game where this has showed up is Immortals Fenyx Rising, formerly known as Gods and Monsters.
