Measures against those carriers are now being considered.
The FCC has found that one or more US carriers broke federal law by selling customer’s real-time location data, after an extensive investigation.
As reported by The Verge, FCC chair Ajit Pai has written to the House Energy and Commerce Committee. In that letter Pai stated:
I am writing to follow up on my letter of December 3, 2019 regarding the status of the
FCC’s investigation into the disclosure of consumers’ real-time location data. Fulfilling the
commitment I made in that letter, I wish to inform you that the FCC’s Enforcement Bureau has completed its extensive investigation and that it has concluded that one or more wireless carriers apparently violated federal l…
How to watch Studio Ghibli films on Netflix in the U.S., Canada, & Japan
Netflix has announced that beginning on February 1 it will begin bringing Studio Ghibli films to its service. In total, there will be 21 films that make an appearance, and they will come in three phases. The films will be made available globally through a distribution partner Wild Bunch International, though this rollout will exclude some big markets.
For those not familiar, Studio Ghibli was founded back in 1985 by the directors Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata and the producer Toshio Suzuki. It is a Japanese animation film studio that has produced feature films, short films, TV commercials, and even worked with video game studios on visual elements for games. Six of the studio’s films are among the 10 highest-grossing anime films from Japan, and the company has many other accolades. It’s most successful title was Spirited Away, which made over $360 million worldwide and was voted the fourth-best film of the 21st century as picked by 177 film critics from around the world in 2016 and…
‘Super ISO’ trademark foretells upgraded night mode for Galaxy S20 series
ISO settings help the camera deal with different lighting conditions.
What you need to know
Samsung was recently awarded a trademark for ‘Super ISO’ by the UK Intellectual Property Office.
ISO relates to light capture in cameras, indicating the company is working on an improved night mode for its phone.
Rumors from industry insiders suggest the feature is being prepped for the Galaxy S20 series.
Samsung’s Galaxy S20 series is reportedly getting a few downgrades in the camera department, but that doesn’t mean cameras are becoming less of a priority for Samsung’s flagships. Indeed, as new trademark awarded to Samsung indicates, the S20 series’ cameras will be one of the phones’ most significant distinctions.
The ‘Super ISO’ trademark that was filed just earlier today by Samsung to the UK Intellectual Property Office suggests the company is working on a souped-up night mode for its phone.
ISO, for those who don’t know, is a setting that determines the sensitivity of the image sen…
Huawei surpassed Apple in smartphone sales for 2019, trailing Samsung
Samsung lead the pack with nearly 300 million units sold.
What you need to know
Huawei took the second-place spot in the smartphone market from Apple in 2019.
It raked in sales of 238.5 million units, compared to Apple’s 196.2 million.
The biggest winner, though, was Samsung, with 296.5 million shipments during the year.
Despite overwhelming pressure by the U.S., Huawei says it can handle anything else the Trump administration throws its way. And the numbers seem to bear that out.
Earlier estimates of Huawei’s unit sales during 2019 pegged the number to an impressive 240 million. That estimate has now been corroborated by Counterpoint Research, one of the leading market research firms in the tech world.
The Hong Kong-based firm estimates that Huawei sold 238.5 million phones during 2019. Not only is that much better than the Chinese giant’s own expectations following its addition to the U.S. Entity List, but the number also marks the first time Huawei has surpassed Apple in …
Should you buy a Wi-Fi 6 router in 2019?
Best answer: Yes, if you have an older router you should consider moving up to Wi-Fi 6, especially since the prices have come down and new phones will likely support the tech. If you already have a fast 802.11AC router it won’t be worth it, however.
Entry level Wi-Fi 6 networking: Asus RT-AX56U ($130 at Amazon)
Wi-Fi 6 in a mesh: Netgear Nighthawk MK62 ($230 at Amazon)
Speed and capacity upgrades
If it’s time for you to buy a new router or you need to get your first router, it’s worth it to be ready for new Wi-Fi devices. Wi-Fi 6 can handle more devices at once and will be able to keep speed and latency more consistent even under heavy load.
Since most people keep their routers for years and may upgrade their phones or computers multiple times before getting a new router, it’s best to get a router that’s ready for the future. Thankfully, Wi-Fi 6 routers have come down in price and are finally ready for mainstream users.
Nearly every networking company has some support for Wi-F…
Protect your S10e in style with these great cases
Yes, the Samsung Galaxy S10e doesn’t have that fancy new ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, but that means that screen protectors aren’t a special brand of confusing. The side-mounted fingerprint sensor on the S10e adds a different challenge — and to be sure, there are far fewer cases around for the S10e right now than the larger models — but that doesn’t mean we don’t have some top-notch cases to protect the S10e’s hole-punch screen.
Clear as crystal
Spigen Liquid Crystal Air
Staff pick
The Liquid Crystal line is my favorite clear case around — well, except for the sparkly Liquid Crystal Glitter variant — because it’s thin, grippy, and doesn’t get in the way. Perfect port cutouts and easy application make a good case great.

Unique hybrid
Ringke Fusion-X
