Google’s Hidden Wimbledon Tennis Game Is Time-Wasting Fun

Search for “Wimbledon scores” to find this hidden gem (via Google)

The world’s oldest tennis tournament is drawing to a close in the UK.

But you can continue the back-and-forth fun with Google’s new Wimbledon-inspired Easter egg.

The strangely addictive game—a grassier version of Pong—features adorable 8-bit-style players rallying over a digital net.

First, make sure your boss (or that super judgemental coworker) isn’t looking. Then open Chrome on your computer or phone and type “Wimbledon scores” into the Search bar.

Skip right past the actual records (or take a moment to see how Serena is doing) by sliding that purple bar—Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, etc.—to the left until you reach a green tennis ball icon.

Tap to start the game.

On desktop, use the arrow keys to move your character left and right, keeping up with the increasingly faster gameplay. I found the mobile version easier, as you can drag the player back and forth with more control.

The high-score challenge against an unstoppable opposition continues until you lose. That is, until you miss a return.

There is seemingly no winning this championship.

My embarrassingly high number of attempts has (so far) yielded a high score of 19. How do you stack up?

Earlier this year, Google celebrated the cinematic release of Avengers: Endgame with a Thanos-themed Easter egg.

Just search for the bad guy and click on the Infinity Gauntlet under his photo, then watch as Thanos “snaps” away half of your results. To get them back, tap the Gauntlet again to make the Time Stone restore the original search.
