A mischievous cat may have been calling for her own “rescue.” Firefighters in Idaho responded to a fire alarm at an animal shelter on Friday, only to discover that a stray cat taken in by the shelter earlier that day had triggered the call.
“[The day] started off as a normal day at our shelter when suddenly the fire alarm sounded around 12:30pm,” the Idaho Humane Society in Boise posted on Facebook. “We hadn’t scheduled a drill, so we were all scratching our heads wondering what was happening?”
The shelter said firefighters arrived on the scene and assessed the facility. After giving the all-clear and escorting everyone back to the building, staff realized that the alarm came from the cat holding room where one black-and-white stray cat was “hanging out” on a rolling cart.
“This sweet feline had been rolled a bit too close to the fire alarm pull and took advantage of this opportunity to hail for am imminent rescue,” the shelter said.
Staff joked that because cats have a special bond with firefighters, it could have been calling for a “special someone” to bring her home as if she had been stuck in a tree.
“Or perhaps she wanted to bring more attention to her feline friends who are waiting to be adopted into their forever homes,” the shelter said.
