‘Garfield Kart’ Is Your Next Meme Game

Not too long ago I wrote about the inexplicable upcoming remaster of SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle For Bikini Bottom and suggested it was caused by memes. SpongeBob SquarePants in general is getting a lot of love these days because of internet memes, and this just seemed like another part of that trend. But then a bunch of you yelled at me for suggesting the game itself wasn’t that great.

Well let’s see if that happens again because Garfield Kart is coming back and you better believe it’s because of ironic internet love of a long-running cartoon, not quality.

The first Garfield Kart launched six years ago as yet another mascot kart racing game destined to disappoint children who had really asked for Mario Kart or Team Sonic Racing or Crash Team Racing. But then last year, like so many Garfield telephones mysteriously washing up on the beach, Garfield Kart returned as an object of obsession for weird YouTube videos. And if I were the folks behind the game I would also spend a year slapping together a sequel to satiate this new audience.

So get ready for Garfield Kart Furious Racing. No, they didn’t make a furry pun. It sounds like what you would expect. Control characters like Garfield, Jon, Nermal, and Odie as you race around “16 iconic tracks from the world of Garfield” in single races or Grand Prix and Time Trial modes. You can customize karts as well use wacky items. We have to imagine Garfield will get a boost from eating lasagna but will they be brave enough to have Jon drink dog semen?

Garfield Kart Furious Racing launches November 5 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Steam. We checked, that’s not a Monday. And if that’s not enough feline irony for you, at that point Cats will be just weeks away. For more on Garfield check out these other remixes of bad comic strips.
