Burger King is rolling out its plant-based Impossible Whopper nationwide.

Starting Thursday, Aug. 8, hungry customers across the US can visit their local BK restaurant (or order for delivery via the Burger King app or DoorDash) to try the vegetarian twist on a fast-food classic.

Following White Castle’s lead, Burger King recently partnered with Impossible Foods—a Silicon Valley startup that develops plant-based substitutes for meat and dairy.

Production of the Impossible Burger uses 95 percent less land and 74 percent less water than ground beef from cows, and emits 87 percent less greenhouse gas, according to the firm.

Their signature sandwich, upgraded early this year, also promises direct health benefits like additional protein, less total fat, zero cholesterol, and fewer calories than a similar-sized meat burger. Not to mention it’s gluten-free.

Folks can already order an Impossible Whopper from 59 Burger King locations in the St. Louis area, as well as six other U.S. markets. And soon, every BK branch in America.

“We are really excited to be able to offer our new Impossible Whopper to our guests across the country,” Chris Finazzo, president of Burger King North America, said in a statement.

In a social media stunt to help announce the latest menu addition, BK invited folks to the grand opening of what they thought was a New York restaurant that served only the Impossible burger.

Surprise: You can now purchase an Impossible Whopper at more than 7,000 Burger King locations—for a limited time (while supplies last)—for $5.59.

Can’t be bothered to leave home in search of a meatless meal? From Aug. 8 to Sept. 1, DoorDash and BK app customers can purchase the Impossible Taste Test to receive an Impossible Whopper and original Whopper for only $7.

So you can try to spot the differences yourself, or share with a friend.

Order from DoorDash using the code IMPOSSIBLE to get free delivery on the Impossible Taste Test or a single Impossible Whopper.

The announcement comes a day after Impossible Foods received FDA approval for use of “magic ingredient” soy leghemoglobin, which makes meat taste like meat without actually containing animal flesh.
