A small airplane experiencing engine trouble made a jaw-dropping emergency landing Thursday on a highway just outside Seattle, Washington — and it was all caught on police dash cam.

Washington State Trooper Clint Thompson was driving along Pacific Avenue South when he saw the the KR2 single propeller plane descending closer and closer to the roadway.

Realizing the plane was going to land on the road during morning, rush-hour traffic, Thompson made an emergency u-turn, activated his lights, and slowed traffic to make room for the pilot to land safely, Washington State Patrol said.

In the dashcam video, the plane can be seen hitting the busy road hard on its landing and then coming to a stop right at a red light.

“Trooper Thompson just happened to be in the right place at the right time and witnessed the plane make an emergency landing,” Washington State Patrol spokeswoman Johnna Batiste said in a tweet.

Thompson can be seen in the video walking up to the plane and “knocking” on the window. He and the pilot then pulled the plane to the side of the road.

According to Batiste, the plane’s emergency landing was due to a “fuel system malfunction,” and no injuries were reported.
