Geek Pick: Amazon Echo Show 5 Is a Nightstand Alexa Display

With there being so many new smart devices to choose from, you can get pretty hedonistic with making your connected smart home as convenient as possible. What’s the next thing you can plug into your internet of things. How about a smart display right on your nightstand for less than a hundred dollars? That’s what you get with the Amazon Echo Show 5.

Whereas the full-size Amazon Echo Show was like propping a tablet or a picture frame on your desk, the new Echo Show 5 is closer to a phone or a digital clock and more versatile as a result. The 5.5-inch screen just fits more easily in more places. And the rectangular screen is better for viewing videos compared to the circular Echo Spot.

As a smart display the Echo Show 5 can do more than just show you the time. Using the touch screen you can set up alarms and music playlists, browse the web and check email, as well as integrate it with tons of your other smart home products. As an Amazon product, of course there’s Alexa voice control support. You can even directly call phone numbers for video conferencing.

The only area where the Echo Show 5 disappoints is with music. Sound quality is low to start and only gets worse when streamed over Bluetooth. But nothing else really tops it in this product category.
