Geek Pick: Sengled Smart Wi-Fi LED Has Multicolor Beauty and Brains

How smart can a lightbulb really be? You turn it on, it makes the room look brighter, you turn it off. That’s it, right? Wrong. With the power of Wi-Fi even the most straightforward appliance can become a more intelligent and more futuristic version of itself. And with the Sengled Smart Wi-Fi LED Multicolor ($25) that future can come pretty cheap.

Physically, the Sengled Smart Wi-Fi LED Multicolor is identical to a normal lightbulb of its size. It’ll fit into any E26 socket so you don’t need to buy some fancy new smart lamp or hub to take advantage of its features. And we suppose you could just use it as a regular lightbulb

But then why buy a smart bulb if you aren’t going to play with it? This bulb can display 16 millions beautiful different colors. After connecting it to your home network you can use a mobile app or digital assistant voice commands to customize those colors. You can also set IFTTT routines to turn the bulb on and off throughout the day or create certain mood lighting for certain rooms at certain times. It won’t interface with every smart home ecosystem out there like Apple HomeKit or other third-integrations. But it’s still plenty versatile.

Beyond creating different color sets and schedules, the bulb will also tell you how much power it consumes. So if you use it efficiently, you may save some money will adding some extra color to your home lighting.
