Gears 5, the fifth entry in the beloved Gears of War franchise, is almost here for Xbox One and PC as Microsoft’s fall gaming centerpiece. It promises to be the biggest entry in the series yet with a mysterious revamped campaign and exciting upgrades to multiplayer modes like Horde and Escape. But if it felt there was a big wrestler-shaped hole in the game don’t worry, it’s about to be filled. Finally, we can play as Dave Bautista in Gears of War.
It’s about damn time. Play as me in #Gears5 starting Sept 15 after @WWE Clash of Champions. @XBox @GearsofWar #DreamChaser pic.twitter.com/bCU4ZIjdw1

Perhaps trying to get some of that Smash Bros. crossover love, Gears 5 has announced a handful of guests characters to play as in multiplayer alongside core story characters. These include Spartans from Halo as well as Punished “Venom” Linda Hamilton playing Sarah Connor in the upcoming Terminator: Dark Fate.
Well now Dave Batista is about to enter this mad world. On September 15, after the WWE Clash of Champions (of course), the wrestler-turned-actor will next turn into a playable character. And this is perfect for a few reasons. One, Bautista was once trying to star in a live-action Gears of War movie that never wound up happening, so at least he still gets to be in the franchise.
Also, Bautista is one of the few actual real-life human beings with a beefy enough physique to not look completely ridiculous standing next to tree trunk men like Marcus Fenix. It’s the same reason why Crackdown 3, if nothing else, was brilliant to cast Terry Crews as a superpowered comedy cop.
Gears 5 launches on Xbox One and PC on September 10. Read our review very soon. For more on Gears of War check out some of the franchise’s best toys and here are some other games to check out in September.
