Geek Pick: Sony HT-S350 Is a Superb Soundbar

Everyone has different needs and desires when it comes to audio in their home entertainment setup. Some people need to craft an elaborate network of speakers surrounding the room to truly become immersed in the experience. Other folks are fine with the TV’s default sound. If you’re someone in-between though you might be looking for a soundbar, and the Sony HT-S350 is one of the best soundbars you can get.

The Sony HT-S350 is comprised of two units: the soundbar itself and the wireless subwoofer. Compared to some rivals, this is a lot to offer for the $280 price. The soundbar is a slim black box with some subtle detailing and various ports and buttons for making connections and adjusting modes. You can also mount it on a wall with optional parts. The subwoofer is a similarly unassuming tower. They’re meant to be heard, not seen.

Working together these two devices deliver audio that should impress everyone but the most elitist audiophiles sensitive to sculpted sound. Songs and movies and games sound clear with powerful bass. Adjust the different modes depending on the sound you’re looking for out of your particular media. But you don’t even need to do that as the default settings are just fine. And if the bass is too intimidating, you can turn that off as well. It may not be as dramatic, but the audio coming from just the soundbar more than gets the job done.
