Samsung stakes claim on 5G handset market

Samsung announced it shipped some 6.7 million Galaxy 5G smartphones in 2019, with the device claiming more than half of the global 5G base.

The company, which offers five 5G models, said as of end-November its shipments represented 53.9 per cent of the worldwide total.

Data from IHS Markit showed the South Korean vendor accounted for three-quarters [1] of the total worldwide 5G handset market in Q3.

Neil Shah, VP of research at Counterpoint Research, added 5G smartphones contributed just 1 per cent of global smartphone sales last year, with that percentage forecast to increase to 18 per cent in 2020.
