Hand tracking doesn’t do much at the moment.

The Oculus Quest is a standalone virtual reality (VR) headset that doesn’t require any cables to be connected to your PC. The device has received a number of new features in recent months, but hand tracking may be the most significant. Yesterday, Oculus updated the Quest software so that you can enable hand tracking as an Experimental Feature.

Menu navigation

You can interact with the Oculus Quest menu from the Library to the Store. Just point at and pinch whatever you want to select. The same applies to fast-forwarding or rewinding trailers in the Oculus Store.

Oculus services

Select apps like the Oculus Browser, Oculus TV, photo library, and more work with hand tracking as well. However, it’s not perfect and deleting screenshots is cumbersome because you have to select minuscule trash can icons.

Xbox One X comes out on top.

Google Stadia is a cloud game streaming service that promises a 10.7 teraflops (tflops) gaming console you can access on your 4K display or your smartphone. Ever since the service launched, many users have compared the visuals Stadia offers with those of the Xbox One X. Unlike the upcoming Xbox Series X which is rumored to feature 12 tflops of performance, the Xbox One X only has 6 tflops. On paper, Stadia games should look much better than what Xbox One X offers, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.

We compared a number of Xbox One X Enhanced games with those available on Stadia to see what the differences were. When there were doubts about image quality or frame rate (FPS), we referenced Digital Foundry’s analyses. You can take a look at the chart below that breaks down the resolution and frame rate of games available on both platforms.

A Darksiders experience from a new perspective.

Darksiders Genesis is a top-down action game that takes you through a variety of levels. Unlike the interconnected nature of Diablo III, you teleport into various environments and are tasked with uncovering a number of secrets and defeating bosses. While the story is a little convoluted and hard to follow, the gameplay is sublime. The ability to freely move around the world and slay hordes of demons with two distinct characters feels incredible.

Hand tracking is finally here.

If you want to enable hand tracking on your Quest, just follow the instructions below.

Go to Settings

Turn on your Quest and click on Settings in the menu bar towards the bottom of the screen. This should give you the option to See All of the settings.

Check System Version

Select the About tab and check if a software update is available. Make sure your Quest is running the latest software by confirming that the top right corner of the window says No Updates Available. The Outer Worlds is about to get even better.

What you need to know

The Outer Worlds is a first-person adventure game from Obsidian Entertainment.
The title is also available on PlayStation 4 due to past publishing agreements.
The developer is going to issue a patch next week which brings a Field of View option to consoles.

The Outer Worlds is an upcoming first-person role-playing game (RPG) from Obsidian Entertainment. Despite the fact that the team is now a part of Xbox Game Studios, this game is available on PlayStation 4 — and will be coming to Nintendo Switch down the line.

Just like any game, it has a number of odd bugs on consoles and PC. Luckily, a patch is in the works which should be available next week, maybe Monday or Tuesday. The team said the following on the Obsidian forums.

It’s alive!

What you need to know

Avatar is an incredibly popular film now owned by Disney.
A game has been in development at Ubisoft since at least 2017.
Many gamers thought the project had been canceled.
Today, the official Twitter account confirmed it was still in development.

A few years ago, news stories circulated that Ubisoft was making an open-world Avatar game for Fox. Since then, Fox has been acquired by Disney and it was unclear if the project was still in development. According to a report by Xbox Achievements, the debate was put to rest because the official Avatar Twitter account confirmed that the game was still in the works.

Microsoft is expanding Project xCloud.

What you need to know

Project xCloud is Microsoft’s game streaming service.
The platform launched in October on Android phones.
Project xCloud is coming to Windows 10 in 2020.
It’s also getting more controller support.

Project xCloud is Microsoft’s upcoming game streaming service along the lines of Google Stadia. The preview launched in October, and since then many gamers are testing it out on Android phones. However, it looks like that’s about to change soon.

In a press release Windows Central received, the company said, “Next year, we’ll bring Project xCloud to Windows 10… and are collaborating with a broad set of partners to make game streaming available on other devices as well.” It’s unclear what these other devices are at the moment, but iOS is probably on the list. We’ll keep you posted as soon as Microsoft reveals what it’s working on.

Many games are still in development.

What you need to know

Amazon has been developing games for many years now.
The company even unveiled a Lumberyard game engine which wasn’t widely adopted.
On Thursday the company laid off “dozens of game developers” says Kotaku.
Amazon says that the layoffs were part of a “reorganizing” effort.
E3 2019 was a blast and many developers showed off intriguing projects like 12 Minutes. However, it looks like some of them who worked for Amazon weren’t so lucky. According to a report by Kotaku, the retailer giant laid off “dozens of game developers” on Thursday.

What do I get in the Kombat Pack?

Unlike other games from Warner Bros. Interactive, Mortal Kombat 11 just has two versions. The standard edition comes with the base game and some preorder bonuses, but the Premium Edition grants you early access to a lot of content. Luckily, that also includes a lot of downloadable characters.
