Breath Of The Wild: How To Get The Tunic Of The Wild (& How To Fully Upgrade It)

The Tunic of the Wild armor set in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of the best armor sets in the game. Not only does its set bonus power up the master sword, but it also serves as a trophy that only the most dedicated players will be able to earn.

In order to get the most out of this legendary armor set, Link will need to travel all over Hyrule and take on some of its most difficult challenges. From discovering the Great Fairy Fountains to shooting down Hyrule’s legendary dragons, players won’t just stumble upon fully upgraded armor.

6 Getting The Wild Armor Set

In order to get the three pieces of armor in the Wild Armor set; namely the Cap of the Wild, the Tunic of the Wild, and the Trousers of the Wild, players will need to complete every shrine in the base game. The 120 shrines scattered across Hyrule vary in difficulty, but Link will need to get through them all if he hopes to claim this armor as his prize.

After completing all 120 shrines, players will receive the side-quest, A Gift From the Monks, which will lead them to the Forbidden Temple. By fast-traveling to the Rona Kachta Shrine, Link can bypass the hordes of Guardians outside and skip straight to the good stuff; three treasure chests placed neatly on a stage, each containing one piece of the Wild Armor set.

5 The Great Fairy Fountains

To fully upgrade each piece of the Wild Armor, players will need to discover each of the four Great Fairy Fountains hidden across Hyrule. To find the Great Fairy, Kayasa, Link should fast-travel to the Tabantha Tower. Then paraglide south to the base of Piper Ridge. From there, players should check their map and head for a small body of water. Activate the fountain by paying the required rupees and Kayasa will be open for business.

In order to find the Great Fairy, Mija, Link should fast-travel to Akkala Shiekah Tower, glide due east and look for another small body of water. For the Great Fairy Cotera, fast-travel to the shrine in Kakariko Village. By continuing up the path and into the forest, Link will find himself at another Fairy Fountain. The Great Fairy Tera is located in the far south-west of the map, hidden under the colossal skeleton of a dragon.

Once all of the Great Fairy Fountains have been discovered, Link will be able to pay the Fairies components to upgrade his armor all the way. Upgrading the Wild Armor set will give Link a +10 defense boost to each item he wears; the Cap, Tunic, and Trousers. Wearing the full set together will make the projectiles from Link’s Master Sword reach significantly further, so it’s definitely worth wearing all three pieces of Wild Armor.

4 Upgrading The Tunic Of The Wild

Each piece of the Wild armor can be individually upgraded at the Great Fairy Fountains, unfortunately, it’s going to be very pricey. Each piece can be upgraded once with 10 acorns and 2 scales of the corresponding legendary dragon. For the Cap it’s the green dragon Farosh, for the Tunic it’s the blue dragon Naydra, and for the Trousers, it’s the Red Dragon Dinraal. Each piece can be upgraded again with 5 Courser Bee Honey and 2 Claws from the corresponding dragons, and a 3rd time with 5 Energetic Rhino Beetles and 2 Fangs from the corresponding dragons. For the final upgrade, Link will need to bring both a star fragment and 2 horns of the corresponding dragons. Multiply all of this by 3 and Link will be rocking a fully upgraded set of Wild Armor.

3 Farming Farosh

Because Link will need so many dragon parts, farming Farosh and the others are incredibly important. Fast Travel to the Shoda Sah Shrine in the Faron Region. Swim up the waterfall to the side using the Zora Armor and place a campfire at the top on the left side of the lake. Use the fire to wait until morning and Farosh will fly up and out of the lake. Use Link’s bow to shoot the horn, mouth, claws, or body for each respective part of the dragon. Once the piece has shot off of Farosh, players will be able to immediately use the fire again without grabbing the piece, as it will stay even after changing the time of day. Farosh shoots out balls of lighting so be sure to wear the Rubber Armor or Thunder Helm while farming Farosh.

2 Farming Dinraal

Unfortunately, Farming Dinraal and Naydra are less efficient than farming Farosh because Link can’t reach where they actually spawn. In order to farm Dinraal, players should fast travel to Hebra Tower and set up a campfire there for easy respawning. Once set, paraglide down to the edge of the chasm and wait for Dinraal to fly down from the north. Dinraal will fly straight through the canyon, so Link will easily be able to jump down and fly alongside the dragon to shoot for whatever piece players need to farm.

1 Farming Naydra

Similarly to Dinraal, players won’t be able to catch Naydra right where it spawns. Instead, players should fast-travel to the Dow Na’eh Shrine and head east. Swim up the waterfall and set up a campfire on the cliff facing the mountain to the east that holds the Shrine of Wisdom. Sleep until morning and then look to the skies above the mountain for Naydra to appear. Use the dragon’s air streams to fly up and shoot for whatever dragon part is needed next.

Once players have gathered all of the required materials for upgrading the Wild pieces of armor, head to any Great Fairy Fountain and boost them up. Now, Link can don his shiny new fully-upgraded Wild Armor.
