Microsoft is gearing up to launch its two new consoles in less than two months, and while the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S have tons of new features for fans to look forward to, the new Xbox controller shouldn’t be overlooked. In a new video released today, Microsoft detailed how the new Share button works with the new Xbox controllers.
The Share button on the new Xbox controllers for the Xbox Series X and Series S is the biggest notable difference from the controller that launched with the Xbox One family of consoles. The Share button, which sits in between the View button and the Menu button, makes sharing clips and screenshots incredibly simple and gives players more ease of access to their clips after they’re recorded. Currently, if players want to record gameplay or take a screenshot, they have to stop playing, open a menu, then hit a button to record what happened but now, players will simply need to press or hold the share button and the work is done.
Pressing the Share button once on the new Xbox controller will take a screenshot and holding the Share button will record a game clip. From there, players will have the option to share the clip or picture to their activity feed, Twitter, or other places. Also, there’s the option to receive a notification on a player’s phone and from there, players can share those clips through various social media platforms, with their Xbox friends, as well as saving the content straight to their phone. Xbox has committed to making the process of sharing content and gaming moments faster and easier for its players.
The Xbox Series S and Series X are preparing to launch in November, and each console will come with the new version of the Xbox controller that features the share button. However, fans who are opting to wait to upgrade can still buy the new Xbox controller separately and use the share features on any of the Xbox One consoles. Being able to use the new Xbox controller on the Xbox One series of consoles is just another way that Microsoft is staying committed to keeping gamers together and not leaving anyone behind.
Unfortunately for the new Xbox controller, the details of this Share button are being overshadowed a bit as shortly before the video was posted, Microsoft announced it had acquired Bethesda, the studio behind The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and other huge franchises. Microsoft has been buying up different studios to increase the value of its Xbox Game Pass service and offer its players more exclusives. Buying Bethesda and having games like Elder Scrolls 6 and Starfield launch on Xbox Game Pass may be Microsoft’s biggest move so far and one that will surely excite Xbox fans.
The Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X are scheduled to release on November 10.
