With each passing day, the next generation of gaming draws closer, and with every bit of news that drops, it feels all the more real. Recently, Jon Scarr of the Best Buy blog shared a photo of the retail box for the Xbox Series X, and fans are losing it over the image.
The Xbox Series X releases on November 10th, just over a month from today, and fans can barely contain their excitement. So much so that the mere image of the box the console will come in is enough to send die hard fans into a frenzy of excitement.
The comments on the image are a diverse bunch, with some discussing the design elements of the box while others take the chance to rip on the PS5’s shortcomings. Regardless of the approach, almost all the comments are positive towards the retail box, with a few minor exceptions.
The post itself asks gamers to answer the question “Isn’t this retail box of Xbox Series X beautiful?” Surprisingly, quite a few commenters take the question literally, going into detail about what they think the box does well and where it falls short. The general consensus seems to be that it’s sleek appearance does great to showcase the Xbox Series X up close, but it could have done with a bit more advertising on the front. Some fans think that Game Pass in particular should have been more heavily featured, as that is a huge selling point of next generation gaming with Microsoft.
On the other side, some commenters find the box design somewhat bland and uninspired. The close up imagery of the Xbox Series X is at an interesting angle that makes the holes on the top seem rather large. Others don’t see the hype, claiming that it’s just a box and that will get thrown away once the content inside is removed. These comments are certainly less common than those praising the design, but they are prevalent nonetheless. Though it may just be a box, seeing it makes the imminent release of the Xbox Series X feel that much more real.
Scarr claims that he doesn’t have any pictures of the Xbox Series S box and hasn’t shared any images of PS5 boxes either, but fans wanting to see more should consider following his Twitter. It seems likely that more images and information will slowly spill out over the next month, and before long next generation consoles will hit shelves.
The Xbox Series X releases November 10th.
