10 Monsters From Lovecraftian Lore That Would Make Awesome Bloodborne Bosses

Bloodborne does borrow a lot of elements from other From Software games like the Demon’s Souls and the Dark Souls series. From the monsters to the difficulty, it’s no wonder how similar each game is. But, Bloodborne also takes a bunch of inspiration from one of the most iconic writers, H. P. Lovecraft.

Many of his stories share the same themes as From Software’s games catalog. And this is something only true Bloodborne fans know. As we’ve seen, by taking influence from a prolific writer and using Dark Souls themes, the results are one of the best games on the PS4. So it only makes sense that to make a list of monsters he’s created to adapt into a Bloodborne game.

10 Yig

This snake-serpent like creature with human hands, 4 of them to be exact, is something out of nightmares. What makes him so terrifying is that he can transform into a giant human-like snake. Now, Bloodborne already has tons of creatures that get bigger.

The Yig wpuld just make the game more challenging. According to his lore, he is extremely hostile towards kids, and he turns them into snakes. So, his addition to the game would be really smooth, because he already fits in with the roster of bosses.

9 Ithaqua

An Ithaqua looks like a very skinny yeti with long horns sticking out of its head and roams the arctic forest areas. He’s is pretty agile and very fast, and often times kills very quickly.

Maybe a Bloodborne version of him could only be beaten with the Kos Parasite, which arguably one of the worst weapons in the game. While this attack won’t do much damage, it’ll slow down the Ithaqua, and stop him from using his long razor-sharp claws. From Software can also make it so that players can’t use range attacks on him because he can dodge them quickly.

8 Dagon

Bloodborne players know that size does not matter in the game. Big or small, the creatures will make short work out the players. Dagon is no exception to this rule. This massive fish-like creature who rules over the sea is so powerful that he can cause havoc for people out at sea.

But, Bloodborne’s vast worlds can still accommodate this amphibious creature. Places like Moonlit Lake and the Fishing Hamlet can house his evil ways. Plus being on the bigger side of things, he can certainly give the player a hard time.

7 Y’Golonac

This guy is a pretty unique creature, while others are truly scary creatures he’s something else. He has a fat body, legs, and arms but no head and his two mouths are in the palm of each hand. He’s not really scary, but his aura gives off a strange feeling.

While he can take many forms, the most common one is an obese man which would work in Bloodborne’s world. Most Lovecraft monsters are bosses, but since Y’Golonac isn’t terrifying alone he would have to make up for it by having more than one of him. He could even be used to drain the player’s health over time.

6 Nyarlathotep

Probably one of Lovecraft’s most interesting monster. This alien-looking creature can drive people mad by his forms of manipulation. He is said to be a shapeshifter, so that alone can add an element of madness into this already twisted game. In the lore, he is one of the tougher monsters so he would have to be a notable challenge in Bloodborne but it would still be manageable with the right weapons. What would makes him stand out from the rest is that while other bosses use physical fear, he employs phycological fear which can open up for deeper narrative points.

5 Hastur

The King in Yellow may not look like it, but he is a force to be reckoned with. Hastur is a Lovecraft monster that is not discussed in depth as much as others in the mythos. This could give From Software a lot of options in how they would want to utilize him. power makes some of the stronger bosses look a tad weaker.

Any spin on him would be interesting, and he could possibly be on parrallel with some of the stronger bosses. What makes him really scary, is that he appears to be a normal-looking human but in a large number of tentacles ready to attack.

4 Rhan-Tegoth

While not as strong as the rest of them he can still be as deadly. This insect-like creature with six limbs can still be a challenge to players if adapting him becomes real.  Places like Hemwich Charnel Lane make for a perfect setting for him.

Even though he’s not a strong beast, he could effectively take advantage of the forest area. If anything, he can be placed at the early stages of the game to slowly get players in.

3 Azathoth

Azathoth is a weirder creature from the mind of Lovecraft. There are only a few versions of him but the main one is that he exists on another plane of reality. He can affect other relatives because he’s so powerful.

Manipulation is one of his powers but his most interesting trait is that he can communicate with other dimensions. Bringing him over into the world would be a great idea. Players would be able to hear him talk to them as if he were trying to communicate with them.

2 Kassogtha

This Lovecraft creation plays double roles to Cthulhu by being his sister and wife at the same time. Nicknamed the bride Cthulhu, she has these large tentacles and is a mass of just tentacles that can easily get her victim.

Having no form or area to hit hard, she could make for a very unique boss battle for the game. One would assume she would be hitting with those tentacles and be more physically based with attacks. Plus she can compliment Ebrietas, Daughter Of The Cosmos because they share some of the same attributes.

1 Cythlla

She is the youngest of Cthulhu kids and she looks a lot like her dad. So if he were to die, he would be reborn through her. Having much of the powers as her father, that alone makes her a threat so bringing her over as one of the main end bosses could be welcoming.

If ever brought over into a Bloodborne series, she can mess with the player throughout the game and slowly drive them mad. Through her, potentially incorporating Cthulhu as a shadowy character in the game could give way for more story ideas.
