Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot’s Second DLC Highlights a Real Problem

It’s an old and tired point by now, but it can’t be said enough. Bandai Namco needs to step up its communication about Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC 2. Fans are more surprised than angry at this point, as it has been a full 10 months since the release of the original game and there’s still no release date for the upcoming second DLC pack. While the game was recently updated with the release of the new Card Warriors game mode, there are a lot of fans that aren’t entirely happy about that addition, and it still comes devoid of any news about the status of DLC 2.

For those that haven’t kept up with it, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot released way back in January of this year alongside a season pass promising fans 3 DLC packs. The first two DLCs were called boss battle episodes and would be shorter battles, while the third DLC promised a full story arc. DLC 1 came out about three months after the base game, giving players adequate time to explore everything, reach max level, and get to know the characters and the story again. On the contrary, DLC 2 still has no release date despite having been almost 10 months since the game’s initial launch and 6 months since the last DLC release.

At the moment, fans know that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC 2 will introduce Super Saiyan Blue for Goku and Vegeta, allow them to go toe to toe with Golden Frieza himself, and even introduce a new type of battle called Crowd Battle. This will see players facing off against 100 opponents at the same time, and they’ll gain access to new moves to help them manage that struggle. This sounds really exciting, and fans genuinely are looking forward to playing through it, but the taste is soured by the utter lack of communication between Bandai Namco and its fans.

To make matters worse, many players have already paid for all of this DLC that they are hearing nothing about, as the Season Pass was available even before the game itself launched. For those players, still not having a release date for DLC 2 or any information whatsoever about DLC 3 is insult to injury, and has led to many simply abandoning Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot as a result. At this rate, it will be over a full year before DLC 3 is even announced, despite most DBZ: Kakarot DLC predictions guessing that there would be three months between each DLC release.

To say this highlights a major problem with Bandai Namco Entertainment as a whole would be an understatement, as other games under its umbrella have had similar issues. The most notable example of this is Elden Ring, which sits perpetually in a state of limbo. Since Elden Ring‘s announcement back in June of 2019, there has been no new information for over a year. This has caused many of the game’s devotees stress, as Elden Ring fans joke about going hollow while waiting for it.

What fans need is simply a more open line of communication. If the development of this DLC has been slowed dramatically due to the effects of COVID-19, it’s likely that fans would understand. The issue is that they don’t even know why the DLC hasn’t released yet, and there’s been absolutely no updates about its status or what could be holding it up. When compared to games like Borderlands 3 which received updates and new content nearly every month since launch, or Ghost of Tsushima, which recently added a free multiplayer update, Bandai Namco isn’t looking so good.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
