10 Hidden Secrets Many Still Haven’t Found In Destiny 2: Beyond Light

Destiny 2: Beyond Light has introduced a myriad of new secrets for Guardians to uncover. The icy moon of Europa is comparable to Forsaken’s Dreaming City with how many secrets there are. Hidden sets of collectibles, chests, and even a few hidden missions are tied to Beyond Light’s new patrol space.

Heroic patrol missions, hidden penguin toys, and special tests from the Light and Darkness are just a few things that most players don’t know about. For those looking to experience all that this expansion has to offer, here are ten secrets that most Guardians miss in Destiny 2: Beyond Light.

10 Smuggler’s Caches And Data Key Fragments

Certain chests on Europa are locked behind a data terminal that requires a certain data key, otherwise known as Smuggler’s Caches. These keys are obtained in sets of three fragments from nearby data terminals in the zone.

To open these chests, interact with the data terminal next to the chest to obtain one key fragment. There will be two additional terminals scattered throughout the zone that must be activated one minute from each other. These terminals radiate bright blue pillars that reach rather far into the sky, so they should be rather easy to find. Once all three are interacted with, head back to the Smuggler’s Chest and interact with the terminal to open the chest.

9 Dead Exos

Via: HoldToReset.com

Dead Exos are one type of collectible found on Europa. There are nine in total for Guardians to find. Unlike Entropic Shards and Penguin Souveniers, dead Exos grant a small snippet of dialogue when interacted with. Their dialogue provides great insight into what all first-generation Exos experienced and how they’ve changed as a race. Check out Eric Switzer’s guide on where to find all nine of them.

8 Penguin Souveniers

Europa has multiple sets of collectibles for Guardians to find. Most know of Entropic Shards and dead Exos, but there is a stranger collectible in the form of Penguin Souveniers. These rather large toys are scattered throughout Europa and are revealed every week.

There are nine in total to find, which means that Guardians will have to wait until January 12th to find all of them. Until then, complete Variks’ Collectible Detector Sabotage bounties and keep an eye out for enemies guarding these penguins. Check out Esoterickk’s YouTube channel for where these penguin collectibles are located.

7 Tests Of Light And Darkness

Both the Light and the Darkness have specific challenges or “Tests” for Guardians to partake in while on Europa. Tests of Darkness require players to destroy crystals while defeating waves of enemies. Tests of Light are solely based on fighting enemies.

Travel to the Asterion Abyss and wait for a blizzard to roll into the zone. A text prompt should appear at some point that states, “The Vex are responding to a strange signal…” Travel to the northern part of the map and defeat the Vex Wyvern mini-boss that spawns. This will grant a Strange Signal buff that can be taken to the Nexus—the zone to the right of Asterion Abyss—to find the same friendly Harpy players discovered on Nessus. Interact with the tree of Light or Darkness shard to start the Test of Light or Test of Darkness, respectively. Complete the challenge by defeating enemies to receive a piece of Europa gear.

6 Nectoric Grip’s Hidden Synergy

Nectoric Grip is an Exotic pair of Warlock gauntlets that cause all Warlock melee abilities to inflict a poison debuff that deals constant damage-over-time. Defeating an enemy with this debuff will spread the poison to nearby foes.

Confirmed to be intended by Bungie, Necrotic Grip’s ability to spread poison also works with Thorn’s poison damage. Defeating enemies while Soul Devourer is up will cause them to explode in a poisonous Dragonfly effect, afflicting all nearby foes with a devastating poison DOT. It works against all PvE enemies and even Guardians inside the Crucible.

5 Augment Trials

The Deep Stone Crypt’s augments have made their way to the Europa patrol space after the raid was first completed. Variks has Braytech Transponders in his inventory that players can purchase to spawn an augment-carrying Fallen at Europa’s current eclipsed zone.

Take the Braytech Transponder to the eclipsed zone and kill the fallen with the Scanner augment. Obtaining the augment will display a buff and a location. Players will need to travel to the location provided and destroy a set of drones in a sequence, only destroying the drone that is glowing yellow. Destroying three sets of drones in the same area grants an Augment Triumph for the respective area. There are eight sets of Augment Triumphs for players to earn.

4 Emote Puzzle

Yet another one of Europa’s weekly secrets, a unique Vex puzzle exists that requires a serious amount of legwork to spawn. Strangely, it requires emotes to solve. To start this puzzle, head to the Eventide Ruins and wait for a blizzard.

Near the end of a blizzard, a message will appear that will describe a Fallen target attempting to wait out the storm. Enter the large warehouse at the bottom left of the zone and kill the Technocrat residing there. They will drop a Riis-Reborn Key Code that must be taken to the Riis-Reborn Approach at the top of the map. Just before entering the room where Eramis delivers her speeches and where players obtain their second Aspect, turn around and look for a Scourge of the Past terminal. Drink the Inert Radiolarian Fluid in the terminal to earn a new buff.

Head to the location the buff describes and look for a glowing Vex pylon. This will spawn Guardians at a new Vex platform that requires players to emote on certain plates. Glowing pyramids on the ground will guide players to a certain side where they must use an emote based on its location. The top part of the platform requires the top D-pad/top arrow key emote, the right side requires the right D-pad/right arrow key emote, et cetera. Complete this rather long series of events grants a piece of powerful Europa gear.

3 Lake Of Shadows Opened Up A New Zone

Some veteran Destiny 2 players might remember a section of the European Dead Zone that was tied to a mission from the Curse of Osiris DLC. It seems Bungie reenabled this zone in Beyond Light either intentionally or by mistake.

Boot up the Lake of Shadows strike and head to the first combat arena at Maverik Square. Instead of traveling straight and following the road up, look for a path to the left of the arena and follow the road. It will lead to a broken bridge and the radio tower used in the “A Deadly Trial” campaign mission. Why this is open is unknown, but those that never played Curse of Osiris can experience one of the DLC’s better aspects right from the Lake of Shadows strike.

2 Short Circuit Triumph

Spoilers for the Deep Stone Crypt raid below!

There is a single Triumph tied to the Deep Stone Crypt raid that is marked as a secret. As of writing this, not a single player has completed it. This Triumph, according to the API, is named Short Circuit and states the following:

Short Circuit: Confront Taniks while depositing all 4 nuclear cores within 10 seconds of each other.

Some raid teams have juggled a third Nuclear Core during the third encounter to have four cores ready, yet this does not properly complete the Triumph. Some assume that the Triumph is bugged and can’t be completed while others believe the community is missing a mechanic. It’s hard to tell who is right, although this Triumph makes for an interesting secret nonetheless.

1 Pit Of Heresy’s New Harrow Hive Runes

Via: biochemgirl123 (Imgur)

Shadowkeep’s Pit of Heresy dungeon has seen a few changes with the release of Beyond Light. Undocumented in Bungie’s patch notes, certain Hive Runes have appeared in locations that were previously devoid of any Hive trickery.

Only the Harrow encounter inside the dungeon seems to have these new Hive runes. Four sets of runes have been located thus far:

  1. On the bridge protected by swinging lanterns and Thrall. Directly right of spawn near the “A” symbol.
  2. On a cliff just north—the same direction as the exit—of the “goat” symbol (three horizontal lines below two diagonal lines and a dot).
  3. Just north of the center of the Harrow, towards the exit of the encounter. The symbols are engraved on the floor.
  4. Engraved in the path between the exit and the “moon lander” symbol (three lines on top, four on the bottom with a horizontal divider).

Credit to Reddit user u/biochemgirl123 for this discovery. The Raid Secrets Subreddit goes into more detail about these runes that Guardians can view here. Perhaps these runes are tied to an upcoming Xenophage catalyst?
