Destiny 2: 10 Small Details About The Lore Of Uldren Sov

The Destiny franchise has certainly had its fair share of issues, but for the most part, it is one of the most popular MMORPG shooters on the market. It has an extremely dedicated fanbase who loves the gameplay and extensive lore. Bungie has done a great job with Destiny 2‘s last three expansions, as they have managed to connect longstanding story threads from the original game, which is why Uldren Sov has become such an important character.

After being killed at the end of Forsaken‘s campaign, Uldren was resurrected by a Ghost, and he is now a Hunter-class Guardian who goes by the name Crow. Before he became a Guardian though, he was the beloved Prince of the Awoken, and the twin brother of Queen Mara Sov, and he has certainly lived an interesting life.

10 He Was Originally Human

The Awoken are humanoid beings with glowing eyes and pale blue, purple, green, or gray skin. The reason why they resemble humans so much is that their ancestors came from Earth. The original Awoken came into being during the Collapse, and they were actually humans who boarded the Yang Liwei colony ship in order to escape the Darkness.

During this escape, the Yang Liwei was caught in a spacetime anomaly that changed every crew member on a molecular level. Uldren was one of the ship’s 900 crewmembers, and before he was transformed, he was an ordinary human, named Uldwyn.

9 He Lived In A Pocket Universe

When the Yang Liwei got caught in the anomaly, it was transported to a pocket dimension. When Uldren and the rest of his people were reborn, they decided to make this new place their home. The Dreaming City may be the sacred home of the Reefborn Awoken, but the pocket dimension, otherwise known as the Distributary, is the Awoken’s true home.

Time passes very slowly in the Distributary, which is why the Awoken were able to increase their numbers and build a true empire over a period of time that seemed like thousands of years. When Mara Sov finally consolidated her power as Queen, she led Uldren and thousands of other Awoken to the Reef.

8 Uldren Technically Saved The Last City

Before Eramis became the Kell of House Salvation, she was a baroness loyal to the House of Devils. She proved to be a ferocious leader during the Battle of Twilight Gap. The Last City was nearly destroyed during this battle, and that is because every Fallen House agreed to join forces.

Uldren intercepted some Fallen transmissions, and with the help of his sister’s Techeuns, they realized that the Fallen were planning a large-scale attack. The Awoken believed that it was too late to help, but when the House of Wolves entered the asteroid belt, the Awoken attacked them. Had the Wolves joined Twilight Gap, the Last City would have surely been destroyed.

7 His Actions During The Reef Wars

People who are just starting Destiny 2 have a lot of things to learn, and when it comes to the lore, they need to know about the Reef Wars. These wars were a series of conflicts between the Awoken and the House of Wolves.

At first, the Fallen scored major victories, but Uldren was able to crack the Fallen’s encryptions with the help of his Crows, which completely changed the tide of battle. With this knowledge, Uldren was able to lead several of the Wolves’ highest-ranking warriors into a trap. He then worked with the Techeuns to create an illusion of a superweapon that scattered the Wolves’ forces.

6 Variks Helped Him To Beat Skolas

Players first met Variks the Loyal during the House of Wolves expansion, but before he became one of Mara Sov’s most loyal subjects, he was allied with the Wolves, growing tired of all the fighting. That is why he sent a secret message to Uldren, and it detailed the Wolves’ planned assault on an Awoken military fortress.

Skolas was the Wolves’ Kell, and he was the one leading the assault, but thanks to Variks’ message, Uldren was able to meet Skolas’ forces with the Awoken fleet. This led to Skolas being captured, an act which ended the Reef Wars, and the remnants of the Wolves then pledged their loyalty to Mara.

5 He Nearly Lost His Mind

Oryx is one of Destiny‘s toughest final raid bosses, and his invasion of the Sol system left scars that can still be felt to this day. The majority of the Awoken fleet was destroyed by Oryx, and it was because of him that Mara Sov was believed to be dead for so long.

Uldren never gave up on his sister though, and this is because he could hear her voice in his head, a voice that turned out to be Riven’s. When the Traveler finally awakened, the voice stopped, which nearly drove him insane because he committed a lot of crimes in order to get Mara back. Things were so bad, that he ended up consuming ether in order to numb the pain.

4 He Allowed The Remnants Of The Red Legion To Attack His Home & Then He Attacked His Own People

The Broken Legion was a detachment of Cabal held within the Prison of Elders, but they were actually placed there by the Red Legion to act as a trojan horse. Uldren learned about the Red Legion’s plan, but instead of alerting the Awoken, he allowed the Cabal to attack his people, which caused the Reef to fall into even more chaos.

Uldren took advantage of this chaos and used the Fallen who were loyal to him to raid his own people. During these raids, Uldren stole from his people and killed many others, using his sister’s “death” at Saturn to justify his actions.

3 How He & Fikrul Met

Some time after his near mental break, Uldren came across Fikrul, the leader of the Scorn Barons, who is known as the Fanatic. Prior to becoming one of the Scorn, Fikrul was an Archon Priest who served the House of Wolves. When Uldren found him, he was barely alive because he had been ambushed by Guardians.

He ended up saving Fikrul by making an unconscious wish to Riven, and this caused Fikrul’s ether to become corrupted. This caused Fikrul to view Uldren as a father-figure, and the two quickly became close due to their shared dislike for their peoples’ fates.

2 He Joined The House Of Kings & Destroyed It

After the Battle of Saturn, Uldren wandered Mars for quite some time. When he began to hear his sister’s voice, he set out to find an army that could help find her. This is why he allowed himself to get captured by the House of Kings, and when he was brought before the House’s Kell, he bowed to Uldren and promised to help find Mara if the Awoken prince helped to unite the Fallen.

Uldren agreed to this, but his relationship with the Kell eventually soured, and that was when Uldren sent for Fikrul and the Scorn. This resulted in the House of Kings’ complete destruction, and the Kell was captured and reduced to the rank of Dreg before he was put to death.

1 He Ventured Into The Black Garden Before The Guardian

Long before the player’s Guardian was resurrected, Uldren wanted to do something that would surprise his all-knowing sister, which is why he decided to go against her wishes and enter the Black Garden on Mars. Uldren managed to enter the Garden after he successfully tricked some Cabal into fighting and killing a Vex Gate Lord.

While in the Garden, Uldren was captivated by its beauty. So much so, in fact, that he wanted to protect it from the Guardians so he could one day bring his sister there. Mara saw the Garden as a way to bring the Guardians to the reef, however, which she assumed might help the Traveler’s recovery.
