10 Hilarious Terraria Memes Every Fan Relates To | Game Rant

Terraria hit the gaming scene in 2011 and has since become something of a cult classic among indie games. While plenty of comparisons to… other… mining and crafting games have been made, Terraria hit a chord with gamers looking for a creative, exploratory game with rewarding combat mechanics and plenty of epic boss fights. Plus, the Super Nintendo-esque pixel art is gorgeous and easily stands the test of time.

It should be no surprise that this game has a huge community behind it even after 10 years – the game released its final update, Journey’s End, in 2020, and no game can last that long without a dedicated fanbase. Fortunately, the Terraria community has some of the most prolific meme creators in any fandom.

10 It’s Called The Wall of Flesh, Dad

For people who don’t play Terraria,  the Wall of Flesh might sound a bit menacing. Really, he’s a big softy who simply wants to chase the player around Hell and consume them with its countless tentacles and gaping maw – not so bad!

9 How To Craft The Zenith

The Zenith is an end-game weapon added in Terraria‘s 1.4 update Journey’s End, and boy does it require a lot of materials to make – other swords found or crafted throughout the game, to be precise. The player combines 10 (!) swords from various parts of the game at a mithril or adamantite forge to craft the Zenith, but some of those swords also have complex crafting requirements.

Using the classic Dragon Dream Hands meme template in their video, Reddit user Kocothelegend explained this process as efficiently as any fan could.

8 Proper Home Construction

The pixel art style of Terraria lends itself to beautiful home and base designs if the player puts in the time to do it properly. In the beginning, the simplest shelter is a rectangle home with two doors, a chair, and a table. A hammer can be used both to break walls and modify existing blocks – say, to create a sloped roof.

Using the hammer to change the appearance of the base is as satisfying as it is addictive. Even the simplest homes look much better with a few swings of the hammer!

7 Minecraft vs Terraria

When Terraria released it received some criticism for being a rip-off of the other mining and crafting game released just a few years prior: Minecraft. After it was discovered that both games had tips telling players to play the other, the communities stopped warring and instead embraced each other.

Since the release of the 1.4 update, more and more people have come back to Terraria as a uniquely complex experience. After all, Minecraft is 3D, and Terraria is 2D – they’re completely different!

6 Mages In Terraria

Just because the Minecraft and Terraria fandoms get along nicely, it doesn’t mean they can’t poke fun at each other. The mage “class” in Minecraft is essentially an alchemist, while the mage class in Terraria is a fully-kitted arcane death machine with a variety of spells at their disposal.

Not to say that throwing potions isn’t effective – but if one were to pit a Terraria mage against a Minecraft mage, it would be a very, very one-sided fight.

5 This Is Fine

Terraria is unique for its NPC visitors and town-building mechanisms. If a house has a door, walls, a table, and a chair, it is considered suitable for an NPC to live in. Generally, an NPC will move in quickly once a house is considered ready by the game’s engine.

Unfortunately, there’s no government agency to prevent such tragedies as pictured above – it’s possible to build homes that the engine considers suitable that would be completely unfit for residence in real life…

4 WOULD YOU LIKE TO?

One can’t go far on the internet without running into Robbie Rotten, the “villain” of Lazytown, edited into some kind of meme. Likewise, one can’t get far in Terraria without a sudden onslaught of enemies and overwhelming adversity – especially if the player hasn’t upgraded their armor or weapons in a long time.

Although Stefan Karl Stefansson passed away in 2018, his memory lives on in the innumerable memes made in his honor across countless fandoms.

3 The Poor, Innocent, Betrayed Guide

The guide in Terraria spawns right when the player creates a new world and offers tips and advice the whole way through the beginning of the game. The guide only ever wanted to help the player along, making his sacrifice to spawn the Wall of Flesh that much more of a betrayal.

There is no way to stop the Wall of Flesh from killing the guide upon spawning – it’s just part of the game. Fret not, though, as a new guide will take their place if the Wall of Flesh wasn’t killed. Just don’t tell them what happened to their predecessor.

2 Cultists In The School Bathroom

Part of Terraria‘s final 1.4 update Journey’s End was the inclusion of a new end-game boss, the Moon Lord, who can only be spawned through a series of events. First, the player must kill four cultists that spawn outside the dungeon, then they must kill the Lunatic Cultist that spawns before initiating the Lunar Events.

Imagine walking into the bathroom and seeing those four standing there, waiting to summon their master. Most would probably look for another place to do their business, too.

1 Overwhelming Numbers

At the end of a hard day’s building and resource gathering, it’s nice to spend some time organizing the base and making things look pretty. But in Terraria, there is no downtime, and the player needs to be constantly on alert for random world events that could interrupt their plans.

Sadly, these random events always seem to happen right when the player gets a moment to themselves, and often all at once.
