Destiny 2: What The Duality Catalyst Does & How To Find It

The Duality Catalyst takes an otherwise decent shotgun in Destiny 2 and makes it better. The Duality shotgun is handy for hip firing and has great range for a slug shot when firing down sights. For many players it’s a solid option in PVP situations and many PVE scenarios.

Of course deciding whether to go to the effort of getting the Catalyst is another story. While it’s one of the easier Catalysts to obtain there’s still a bit of grinding involved. To help players decide whether to spend their time doing this or something else here’s what the Duality Catalyst does and how to get it.

The Duality Catalyst provides two bonuses to the shotgun:

  • Increase Duality’s range by 20.
  • Increase Duality’s magazine size by two.

This gives it a total range of 93 and a magazine size of eight. For a shotgun this can’t be understated as it makes it more dangerous at mid range and lets the player fire more rounds giving it greater DPS potential.

Getting the Duality Catalyst requires completing the quest Walk The Line. It’s a questline offered by Banshee-44 and consists of two parts:

  • So Very Thin
  • Returning Home

Once the player has the Duality weapon they can talk to Banshee-44 at any time to start the So Very Thin part of the questline.

For this section players need to complete three things:

  • Earn 300 points of Calibration Progress.
  • Kill 50 Guardians with Duality.
  • Kill 100 enemies with Duality’s Slugs.

Strike Playlists, Nightfalls, Gambit, and Crucible matches can be used to get all three. Getting the 100 kills with slugs might be hard for those on console, but most players will need a bit of time to get 300 points of Calibration Progress.

After completing the three requirements players simply need to return to Banshee-44. He’ll make a comment on the craftsmanship of the Catalyst before handing it over. Afterward players will need to get 400 kills with the weapon to fully charge the Catalyst.

This is already one of the fastest and easiest Catalysts to obtain, but there are ways to speed things along. Players should ideally be grinding out the 100 Guardian kill in Gambit or Crucible using the Duality slugs. If done right players could get Calibration Progress, one of the Duality slug kills, and a Guardian kill all in one.

Many players prefer Crucible as they can use teammates to soften up enemies before delivering the final blow with a Duality slug. In reality the player should do whatever is most efficient or fun for them in order to meet the necessary requirements.

After the Catalyst is obtained the player simply needs to get 400 kills. The best way to do this is find a farmable area with low level enemies and rack up kills. This can be done relatively quickly and gives the player valuable experience using Duality. It can even be done while pursing another objective like grinding out kills for the Bad Juju Catalyst.
