Fallout 4: 8 Things Most Players Missed In The Mass Fusion Building

The Mass Fusion building from Fallout 4 is instantly recognizable to anyone who has picked up Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic RPG. Located right in the middle of the Commonwealth, it’s the tallest and most creative building in the city. The player will notably travel there either in the Institute main quest “Mass Fusion” or the Brotherhood of Steel main quest “Spoils of War”.

Even without quests, however, the building’s unique design may still drive players to explore every inch of the skyscraper. Those willing to venture into the building may be surprised to find many secrets about Fallout 4‘s world hiding there.

8 Freefall Legs

The Mass Fusion building is the second-tallest structure in the game, save for the Trinity Tower. Still, the roof of the Mass Fusion building offers an impressive view of the game’s world. Hidden deep within the walls of the building is a set of armor that allows the player to survive a fall from any height in the game. Players will need to be equipped with power armor and a jet pack.

The room with the armor is located near the top of the building. There is also a glitch players may be able to exploit, using a trash can on the building’s bottom floor to essentially climb the walls. The Freefall Legs is a possible reference to the Boots of Springheel Jak from Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

7 Jack Rockford’s Log

In the same room as the freefall armor is the log of the inventor of the armor, Jack Rockford. The log can be discovered in the intern’s terminal in the room. It tells the story of Rockford, who worked as an intern in the Mass Fusion building before the war. He describes being inspired to create the legs after elevator maintenance was taking too long.

Rockford kept the armor locked in his safe, hoping to surprise his co-workers at the right moment. Unfortunately, Rockford had accidentally forgotten the key, trapping the legs in the safe. His final entry describes how he decided to stay in the room when the bombs dropped. Jack’s skeletal remains can be seen near the terminal.

6 Tesla Science Magazine Issue #5

Perks acquired from the Tesla Science magazines can be extremely helpful when playing Fallout 4. Issue #5, advertising “Giant Super Weapons!”, can be found in the Mass Fusion building.

On the ninth floor, players will find the magazine on a computer bank in the southeast area of the building. The player can access the area using a jet pack, or after completing either of the main quests associated with the Mass Fusion building.

5 Karl Oslow’s Holotape

Karl Oslow was the founder and CEO of Mass Fusion, and players can find his holotape in his own building. Players will discover the holotape in the upper area of the Mass Fusion executive suite, where the tape can be found on a table near the executive research lab terminal.

The tape features a heated argument between Oslow and Doctor Noel Chandrich. Chandrich seems to be appalled that the beryllium agitator they’ve been designing was secretly going to be given over to the military. Though not explicitly mentioned in the hollow tape found by players, Chandrich was eventually fired by Oslow, determined to sell the beryllium agitator to Washington.

4 Strength Bobblehead

Featuring the iconic Fallout boy, bobbleheads permanently improve skills for the player in Fallout 4. The strength bobblehead can be found within the Mass Fusion building.

It’s located on the fifth floor of the building, sitting atop a metal statue overlooking the main hall. Picking it up will improve the player’s strength by 1, for up to a maximum of 11.

3 Stealth Boys

Some players choose to go into Fallout 4 guns blazing, while others find navigating the Commonwealth through stealth to be more satisfying. Stealth Boys can be highly valuable for players seeking the latter since they make players invisible for 30 seconds.

There are two that can be found in the Mass Fusion building. The first is located on the same level as the glass floor, on a metal shelf next to the chemistry station. The second can be found in the same room as the Freefall legs, atop a small bookshelf.

2 Power Armor

To survive in the wasteland, a full set of power armor can be a huge advantage for the player. Complete sets of power armor can be found throughout the map of Fallout 4, and one can be found in the Mass Fusion building.

The power armor can be located in the main building and is worn by the Gunner commander, part of the mercenary organization that can be found lurking around the Mass Fusion building.

1 Beryllium Agitator

Created by the Mass Fusion facility before the war, the beryllium agitator is the driving force behind the main quests in the building for the Institute and Brotherhood of Steel. The item can still be acquired by players if they sided with the Commonwealth Minutemen.

In this instance, players will have to find the Mass Fusion executive ID, located in the desk inside the executive suite. Since the beryllium agitator is not considered a quest item now, it can be sold for 250 bottle caps.
