Dragon Ball: Krillin’s 10 Best Fights, Ranked | Game Rant

Goku’s gone through a lot of rivals over the course of Dragon Ball, but only one has the privilege of calling him “best friend.” Krillin has been a part of Dragon Ball since he trained alongside Goku for the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai. He’s one of the most prevalent martial artists in the story, maintaining his importance long after most of the Earthlings have bowed out.

Krillin’s even become a mainstay in Dragon Ball Super, ensuring modern audiences don’t forget about Goku’s right hand man. While Krillin is far from the series’ strongest martial artist, he’s participated in some of Dragon Ball’s best fights and is one of the most skilled fighters in the franchise.

10 Krillin Vs Dracula Man

While a short fight and hardly Krillin’s best display of power in Dragon Ball, his battle against Dracula Man during Uranai Baba’s Tournament is utterly hilarious. The first match-up, Dracula Man immediately turns into a bat and starts sucking blood out of Krillin’s head.

Krillin has no choice but to forfeit or else he’ll die from blood loss. It’s a moment that’s played for laughs, but that’s part of early Dragon Ball’s charm. Krillin also gets to show off his smarts when he helps Yamcha defeat Suke-san in the next round, so it’s not like he loses for nothing.

9 Krillin Vs General Blue

General Blue is one of the deadliest members of the Red Ribbon Army and he nearly kills the main cast to prove it. Blue comes dangerously close to victory in the Pirate Cave. While Krillin is strong, General Blue is a trained soldier with psychic powers. Blue is able to paralyze Krillin in place with his abilities, delivering quite the beatdown. Krillin is unfortunately on the receiving end for most of the fight, but Blue’s skill set sticks out as one of the most unique in Dragon Ball.

8 Krillin Vs Chaozu

Funny enough, General Blue isn’t the only psychic opponent Krillin fights in Dragon Ball. Krillin’s first match during the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai is against Chaozu, a psychic assassin training under the Crane School. Like Blue, Chaozu’s abilities are able to lock Krillin in place – allowing him to get several free and easy hits in.

Krillin fights back against Chaozu not through brute force, but by outsmarting him. Since Chaozu has to use his hands to paralyze and was never taught basic math (unlike the Turtle School), Krillin shouts out several math problems to confuse him. Chaozu is forced to count on his fingers, giving Krillin an opportunity to secure victory.

7 Krillin, Gohan, & Vegeta Vs Recoome

Dragon Ball always does group battles well, mainly because Goku tends to sit them out. As a result, the main characters are forced to fight for their lives and often creatively. While Krillin isn’t the star player in the fight against Recoome (Gohan and Vegeta ultimately do more), his presence is significant and adds to the overwhelming feeling of despair before Goku can arrive.  Vegeta isn’t strong enough to stop Recoome; Gohan has his neck snapped, nearly dying; and Krillin takes a nasty kick head-on that prevents him from doing much without a Senzu. By the time Goku arrives, it’s easy to share Krillin’s hope.

6 Krillin, Gohan, & Vegeta Vs Frieza

The fight against Frieza is an endurance match mainly about buying time for Piccolo and Goku to arrive. The main characters have no real chance at survival, but that doesn’t stop Gohan or Krillin from fighting back. While Vegeta cowers in fear, Krillin leads Frieza all throughout Namek in a move that ultimately costs the tyrant his tail.

Even though Krillin is painfully outmatched, he doesn’t back down fighting second form Frieza. Krillin is only second to Gohan as far as pre-Goku Frieza battle time is concerned. Vegeta sits out most of the fight and Piccolo doesn’t get too much action before Goku arrives. Krillin pulls his weight no matter the threat.

5 Krillin Vs Jackie Chun

Charming, comparatively grounded, and the first real example of Dragon Ball embracing super speed and other outrageous techniques, Krillin’s fight against Jackie Chun in the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai is a great showing for both characters. There’s a lot of humor during the match, but this is also the first time where Toriyama really starts to play with fight choreography.

The action is slicker, more dynamic, and there’s an actual arc to their battle. This fight also builds off Yamcha’s in the first round, where Jackie Chun was able to defeat the bandit without so much as taking a hit. Krillin is a much stronger opponent, nearly ringing out Chun with early on. It just goes to show how well Roshi trained his students.

4 Krillin, Gohan, Yajirobe, & Goku Vs Vegeta

The final battle against Vegeta at the end of the Saiyan arc stands out as one of the single greatest fights in Dragon Ball. After Goku unfortunately exhausts all his energy just trying to stop Vegeta, the Elite Saiyan transforms into an Oozaru and starts breaking every bone in Goku’s body. It’s left to the surviving Earthlings to save the day.

Yajirobe slices off Vegeta’s tail while Gohan takes on the Saiyan himself, leaving Krillin to carry on Goku’s Genki Dama and fire it at Vegeta. While Krillin misses, he plays an instrumental role in giving Gohan the chance to fire the Genki Dama into Vegeta. Not just that, Krillin was outright ready to kill Vegeta with Yajirobe’s sword had Goku not intervened.

3 Krillin, Gohan, & Piccolo Vs Nappa

The Saiyan arc in general is Dragon Ball at its best. The fight against Nappa is incredibly tense, especially coming after Yamcha’s untimely death. Watching Tenshinhan and Chaozu die back to back sets a heavy tone for the fight, as if anyone can die. Krillin, Piccolo, and Gohan all fight for their lives, desperately trying to defeat Nappa.

While the Saiyan is stronger, Krillin and Piccolo are two of the most talented martial artists on Earth. Together, they’re able to lock Nappa into a killer combo that could have finished the Saiyan off if Gohan didn’t choke. While the fight is ultimately a team effort, Krillin plays a key role and actually would have killed Nappa with his Kienzan if Vegeta didn’t realize what was happening.

2 Krillin Vs Majunior

An often overlooked detail in the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai is that Piccolo actually loses his confidence after fighting Krillin. Before the tournament begins, Majunior genuinely believes he will easily avenge Demon King Piccolo and take over the world. That all stops when Krillin puts up a truly impressive fight in the first round.

Krillin’s ability to fly, Ki attacks, and smart tactics nearly net him a ring out victory over Piccolo. What Krillin lacks in raw strength, he makes up for in ingenuity. And while he loses the fight, Master Roshi praises him as a genuine master artist on every level. More importantly, Piccolo starts to realize that Earth’s martial artists are an actual threat.

1 Krillin Vs Son Goku

Krillin only gets to fight Goku once in Dragon Ball, but it’s easily his best fight in the series. During the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai semi-finals, Master Roshi shares his philosophy with Tenshihan as Goku and Krillin step onto the arena: the next generation of martial arts is here and it’s time for him to pass the torch.

Goku and Krillin’s fight is one of the most creative battles in Dragon Ball, highlighting Roshi’s decision to step down. His students have far surpassed him, both skilled in their own right. Where Goku is a powerful martial artist who’s also incredibly skilled, Krillin is a brilliant strategist whose quick thinking nearly wins him victory over Goku. Krillin’s fight against Goku in the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai is a mix of excellent fight choreography with brilliant storytelling.
