Android 12 beta suggests the Pixel Fold will use Google’s Tensor chip

13 8 月, 2021 Andrew Myrick 0

What you need to know

Android 12 Beta source code shows four devices using a Samsung modem.
Two of the devices are said to be the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.
The third, “Passport,” is the alleged codename for the Pixel Fold.

According to the source code found in the Android 12 Beta, references to a device codenamed “Passport” have been revealed. This codename is likely that of the rumored Pixel Fold that Google could be gearing up to release before the end of the year.

In a tweet by cstark27 (via FrontPageTech), there are references to four devices that make use of an unannounced Samsung Exynos modem. This modem features a model number of “g5123b,” which would align with Samsung’s most current processor, the “5123A.”

Oriole, Raven, Passport, “Slider” are 4 out of 5 devices that have a modem referenced as “g5123b”. The most recent Samsung Exynos (“shannon”) modem is 5123A. Can’t confirm the last one right now.— cstark27 (@Cstark_27) August 11, 2021

Having Chromebook problems? Here’s how to use the Diagnostics app to help

8 8 月, 2021 Andrew Myrick 0

When Google announced Chrome OS 90 back in April, the company added a brand new Diagnostics app. As expected, the app makes it easy to analyze the best Chromebooks to identify any potential problems that you may be experiencing.

How to use the Diagnostics app on a Chromebook

Performing a diagnostics test was available before Chrome OS 90 was announced, but it required you to view an internal system page. Now, you have a dedicated app that presents diffrent bits of information regarding the battery, CPU, and Memory. Here’s how you can access the Diagnostics app:

With your Chromebook unlocked, click the Time in the bottom right corner.
Select Settings.
Click About Chrome OS.
Select Diagnostics.

Another way that you can access the Diagnostics app is by pressing the launcher key on your keyboard and typing Diagnostics in the search bar. Press the Enter key, and it’ll take you right to the Diagnostics page.

As we stated above, there are three different areas in the Diagno…

Trying to root and ROM in 2021 can be fun but isn’t necessary

7 8 月, 2021 Andrew Myrick 0

It’s tough to get back into rooting when you’ve been away for so long

When the idea for this article came about, it was because I was excited to explore the world of rooting again with the OnePlus 9 Pro. The 9 Pro has been my go-to phone whenever my hands get too tired from holding my massive Galaxy Z Fold 2. It’s a complete powerhouse, even if OnePlus decided to intentionally throttle the performance of some of the best Android apps.

But things have taken a bit of a turn in recent days, which have me feeling a bit disappointed. Let me explain what happened when I tried to root and install a custom ROM on my OnePlus 9 Pro.

Early beginnings

Unlike some other writers here at Android Central, my foray into Android didn’t start with the T-Mobile G1. I dabbled around with the HTC-made T-Mobile G2, but the unreliable keyboard hinges pushed me back into the world of iOS and Apple. I really didn’t get into Android until the HTC Evo 4G was released, complete with its shoddy “WiMAX” conn…
