Not content with being the world’s largest e-commerce marketplace, Amazon is expanding its reach with a new styling service for women’s fashion.
Personal Shopper by Prime Wardrobe launched this week, exclusively for Prime members in the US.
Get started via the iOS or Android app by filling out a survey about fit and trend preferences: Like animal prints? Hate going sleeveless in summer?
“After learning more about your broad preferences including style, fit, and budget, our stylists will curate inspirational pieces for everyday or help find that perfect look for work, vacation, or a night out,” the Personal Shopper FAQ said.
Using a combination of technology and “a personalized human touch,” trained stylists handpick clothes, shoes, and accessories from thousands of available brands (including the company’s own).
You can preview the picks and select which items to ship in a Prime Wardrobe order.
Customers have up to seven days to try everything on at home; simply return any lemons (using Amazon’s resealable packaging) and pay only for what you keep.
Stitch Fix and Nordstrom’s Trunk Club perfected the system years ago, helping to inspire a growing industry of subscription personal styling services.
Amazon in 2017 introduced Prime Wardrobe—a try-before-you-pay program that comes free for members. But not everyone has an eye for fashion. So for $4.99 a month, you can let someone else pick your outfits.
“Now you have two great options to bring the fitting room home,” Amazon boasted. “With [Prime Wardrobe or Personal Shopper] you can order clothing, shoes, and accessories, and take seven days to decide what you love and only pay for what [you] keep.”
Personal Shopper by Prime Wardrobe currently styles women’s apparel in sizes 0-24 and XS-XXL/3X, as well as women’s shoes in sizes 5-12. Amazon hopes to expand into men’s selections “soon.”
