Most Desired DIYs In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Ranked

Nintendo’s Animal Crossing New Horizons released March 20, 2020 and although it has been more than 6 months since the release, fans are still trying to complete their DIY collection. The game is full of DIYs, in fact, there are a total of 610, with more added during updates.  The summer update brought fans the mermaid series, while the fall update brought the Halloween series and more DIYs are anticipated with the upcoming updates.

Islanders use these DIYs to personalize their islands and with multiple customization options for the vast majority, the players can really make their islands unique. Some DIYs are not exactly enthralling or it seems the game freely hands out the same DIY over and over until one full room is dedicated to housing these duplicates (looking at you Cherry Lamp). Other DIYs seem to be rather elusive. Islanders pop balloons, search for message bottles along the beach, and bug their villagers only to find another Cherry Lamp or Log Chair. With hundreds of DIYs available, these are the most sought after craftable items in Animal Crossing.

10 Spooky Arch

Every islander transformed their little spot of paradise into a spooky isle. Some give their villagers spooky lanterns, scarecrows or candy sets, but the most desired Halloween DIY is the spooky arch. The pumpkin laden archway is a perfect addition to an island entrance, pumpkin patch or your own creepy castle home. Of course, fans are itching for ALL of the Halloween DIYs, but it’s the archway that adds that perfect nightmare flair with pumpkins and bats accenting the twisted bark.

9 Astrology DIY Set

Each month, as the astrological signs switch over, Celeste brings her starry eyes and special DIYs and every few weeks islanders know it’s time for the next sign’s special DIY. October said goodbye to the Virgo Harp and hello to the Libra Scale.

Fans ran around, searching and searching for the big bow’d owl. As Scorpio comes, islanders will repeat the craze until they have secured all twelve zodiac DIYs in the set. Technically, these DIYs could take up all 10 (plus) spots on this list, however, grouping them seemed a little more fair to the rest of the DIYs.

8 Barrel

This DIY may seem too simple to be one of the most desired DIYs of the game, however, when you see a secret pirate beach or vineyard with barrels accenting the area, you realize how needed this DIY is for that complete look. Other items can be placed on top of barrels also, which makes the barrel not only a great décor item, but functional as well. The barrel is multifunctional and can be used in unlimited themed areas from the previously mentioned pirate and vineyard areas to a bakery, dock and beach areas or a farm. The only downside with the barrel, there are no customization options.

7 Bamboo Partition

Some of the most commonly created areas in Animal Crossing New Horizons are a Japanese-inspired garden, Zen garden, onsen, beachside resort or spa. The entire set of bamboo DIYs are wonderful to decorate these types of areas because of course, the area needs a stool or bench, floor lamp, but perhaps the best used and most sought after bamboo DIY is the bamboo partition. It allows islanders to break up the area, separate spa features, or use it as background or fencing. The bamboo partition is versatile and adds a lot without taking up a lot of space.

6 Frozen-Treat Set

This little platter of popsicles is the perfect addition to so many areas on the island from picnic tables, diners, ice cream stalls, beachside shops. While their villagers strolled around licking ice cream treats, islanders spent all summer trying to find this DIY.

Unfortunately, the islander needs one snowflake and one large snowflake to craft the item. So, while this is the perfect summertime item, it looks like winter will be a more practical time to find this DIY, meaning islanders are left wanting and waiting to find it.

5 Frozen Pillar

Another frozen item stands among the top of the most desired DIYs. The frozen pillar, like the barrel or the bamboo partition, simply creates an interesting addition to an area, but the main reason this DIY is so desired is because of the customization options.  With seven color options, ice blue, dark blue, pink, yellow, orange, green, and purple, an islander is not limited to using this item during the winter months. A path of orange ice pillars creates a spooky atmosphere for October. Try using the dark blue in perhaps an arcade or the yellow near tiki torches to make it look like the light is bouncing off the pillar. With a bit of creativity, the possibilities are endless.

4 Zen-Style Stone

Graveyards or cemeteries are another staple area to include on an island. Even if an island did not have a graveyard, the harvest season inspired islanders to devote at least a small space to a ghostly path of graves, and with only a few grave options including the western-style stone, stone tablet, and the Zen-style stone there is bound to be a favorite among the three. Visiting other islands, you are likely to see the western-style stone grave more often, however, the Zen-style stone grave adds height to a graveyard, can be used as entrance pillars, and helps add variety within a row of western-style stone graves. It may not be as commonly used, but the way it’s used makes this DIY highly desired.

3 Mush Lamp

There is absolutely no way to achieve a wonderland or cottage-core ambiance without mush lamps. This DIY gives an immediate sense of nature and warmth and is beyond versatile.

The customization options include natural brown, white and orange colors perfect for the nature path. There is also a vibrant blue or the red with white spots, which immediately takes fans to plotting out a Mario themed area.

2 Blossom-Viewing Lantern

There are only two customization options for the blossom-viewing lantern, a dark wood and a light wood, but this does not deter islanders from needing this DIY. Pretty to look at during the day and glowing at night, these lanterns create magical entrances or rest area lights. This item is tall while only taking up a 1×1 square, so it fills in that small space while creating a peaceful glowing atmosphere.

1 Nova Light

The absolute most desired item is the Nova Light. Islanders wish on stars and comb the beaches in the morning to find star fragments, mostly yellow stars, some large white stars, and then the ever-changing zodiac stars in different colors. Islanders, of course, use these fragments to craft amazing DIYs like the moon, crescent-moon chair, lunar rover, however, another common use is simply dropping these different colored star fragments in areas to decorate. There is one problem with that. If an islander enjoys visitors, there is nothing stopping these visitors from picking up the stars. The nova light comes in every color the star fragments come in and are placed rather than dropped. There is no crescent moon lake, or zodiac garden complete without this DIY.
